I'm currently trying to put together a very cheap PC to replace my old desktop. The PSU from the old machine is a 375W ATX 1.2 format. What I'm wondering is can I use this with a modern MOBO; I haven't settled on anything specific but am likely to end up with a E2140 or similar. I'm not so worried about the wattage but more about pin compatablity. Any ideas? Thanks!

No, unfortunately you cannot.

The standard now is ATX 2.2 and all motherboards now will have this standard.

Generally speaking, you need the ATX2.2 as components are needing more power and an ATX1.2 will not fit the bill. Also you do need the 24pin to put more power into the system and the 1.2 only comes with the 20pin.

Technically you could get a 20pin-24pin converter and a 4pin-8pin converter (if it even has a 4pin?) but I would be worried about an old design coping with modern systems. Do you know what brand it is (Enermax maybe?)?

it probably wont work, just be safe and get a new power supply, or possibly maybe get a case like the "Antec NSK4400 Mini Tower Case", or "Antec Sonata III Piano Black Quiet Case - EarthWatts 500W PSU", as the case + power supply combo is only about 10 pounds more than the power supply on its own and the power supplies in them are plenty for lower end pc's.

Ah cheers guys. I thought the pin thing might prove to be an issue. I guess you're right, getting a new case-psu combination is the best bet. Are the Antec cases any good, I'm not really up on equipment these days?
