ok just about to goto checkout on my new build, but not sure what to do with the HDD's...
Does this make any sence to anyone? I was told a long time ago that by using a small HDD for the OS and then a large HDD for all my other stuff like games and pics n vids ect, i stand a better chance of saving something if one of my drives goes belly up! I did this on my last rig and tbh i did find it easier to manage. But is this just a wast of time? I was going to get a 80/250gig and a 500gig, i think just 500gig totall will be more than enough.
If you dont have raid what do you guys do? just one large HDD?

Thanks

Having a smaller hard drive for your OS is definately easier to manage. I, personally, would rather have three. One for the OS, one for all my Apps/Games and one for all my documents. I just find that easier to manage and backup.

By keeping the OS on a separate drive, it means that if your OS installation messes up it's a lot less hassle to get all your documents and other data back. It also means that your system should feel slightly faster as the OS drive will only be reading the OS data while the programs drive can take care of loading the programs. This measn that more information can be read at once and so giving faster boot up times.

In short: an 80gb OS drive with another drive or two for your apps and documents will be better.

I went for 2 500 gigs plus I have some old drive, this way I can backup everything on the other drive. This way if you get a hard drive failure that isnt OS related you still have your files.
