I have just bought a DS215j to replace my old Netgear readynas duo. Can I install 1 of the 2tb drives from my netgear (currently in raid 1) in the Synology NAS, copy the stuff from 1 nas to the other then add the 2nd drive in raid 1 to the Synology when I'm done? I vaguely remember needing to setup raid 1 from the initial setup on my netgear?

If you're taking one drive from your old NAS.

First, check your data is still accessible on your old NAS. (I assume you have another backup of it too..)

Put disk into new Synology, it will format it. Tell it to create a 'SHR' volume = Synology Hybrid Raid.

When it's finished, you can copy the data from old NAS to Synology NAS.

Once that's done, you can add the second disk and tell the SHR to add the second disk to the group.

If it's the same size disk (should be), then you'll see the 'Manage' option in Storage Manager.

Thanks, it's a pair of 2tb WD red drives. I have used my Netgear with just one drive before so I know that works. I take it SHR is Synology for raid 1?

Thanks
