Would it be worth picking up a 5970 these days or would it be better to get a 6970/570?

Budget is £250 at christmas time so not too worry about deals at the moment as i have no money available untill christmas, also would like to play bf3 on as high settings as possible.

I have a 600w psu and a i5 2500k, 8gb ram

If you're not gonna have the cash till crimbo, you might be lucky and find the new 7000 series out, so you could either get one of these or pick up a cheaper "last gen" card

I wouldn't really bother with a 5970, a lot of them have been hammered with bitcoin mining and even if they haven't they still have a very limited 1gb per core VRAM, so 1gb effective. If you are on lower resolution I guess that is fine, but then you don't really need the power of a 5970.

I would hold out for a 7850/7870 card, should be here before christmas and they should be hitting with 2gb of ram, these cards should be coming in at under £200, maybe £150. Pay a little more and at the end of Jan-Feb you can have a 7950/7970, these should be hitting at under £300 I imagine due to the lower manufacturing costs compared to the 6 series, so long as supply is plentiful.
