Ive noticed the cpus have risen in price which im devastated about because now im pushing to afford a i9 9900k n so will have no money spare. Will my old arctic freezer heatsink fit? Currently on my i5 6600k?

Thanks guys

it'll come down for the easter sales. assuming that £/$ conversion doesn't tank.
and you'd probably want a beefier cooler than an old arctic freezer. 9900k is one hot chip. can draw ~250w when overclocked and overvolted.

No good for me im buying week thurs :(

Thanks for the reply, so the heatsink is no good. Now dunno what im gunna do, is the Arctic heatsink for the i9 9900k a gd choice?

Im now looking for a heatsink n my jaw just hit the floor seeing the price of the dark rock pro 4, is there a recommended sink which is a bit cheaper, grrrr wishing my pockets were deeper

You will need a beefy cooler for the 9900k, there's no getting around that. Seeing that you're on a budget, what is your PSU like?

Im not actually sure, its a 650 watt I think, its a corsair one I believe if I remember
Have a 1080 card 16gb n 3 ssds one of em being a M2
Will I be ok?

depends on what corsair model it is.
not all corsair psus are made equal.

what do you need the 9900k for? if just for gaming, then 9700k is a very valid alternative.
for what it's worth now, it was a bit silly to buy a super expensive maximus hero when there were cheaper alternatives, allowing you to spend your hard earned budget on a 9900k and a decent cooler.

Which Arctic Freezer cooler do you have? There are several that share the name.

It will fit as the mounting holes are the same as for your i5 6600k. You will probably be fine using it to tide you over for a month or two until you get something better. Just don't touch overclocking and if i were being cautions I would make sure the the auto overclocking feature like Multi Core Enhancement are disabled on the motherboard.

Ill check the model and get back to you but my money situation is I never have much so I buy when I have it, buying cheaper and then in a month buying more expensive doesn't work for me.
I can get the i9 9900k and a cooler itll just skin me is all n ill be paying for it next month but needs must and atleast I can play games without worry.
Good news my current cpu cooler will fit but I think its the crap one at bottom, number 7 rev 2
And I dont like the idea of turning off what you mentioned so I wont use it afterall, just buy a gd cooler
Any you recommend guys?

If you don’t have much money why are you buying a 9900K? The stupid price does not justify the performance. Especially not with Zen2 around the corner.

You do realise you will need a new motherboard (preferably Z390) for a 9900k? The same applies for any 8000/9000 series cpu. They are not compatible with your 6600k's motherboard.

Im buying the 9900k bcus someone above said or on another thread that going from a 6600k to anything other than a 9900k is a waste of time and pairing anything other than a 9900k to my new maximus hero board doesn't do it justice
This not correct?
Thanks guys

Edit: This is the board I already have sat next to me waiting to be put into my Phantek evolv-x case along with whatever cpu I buy

Doesn't sound correct. Gaming workloads will see no difference unless they specifically benefit from HT. This is hardly any. Do you use the machine for heavy workloads other than games? Rendering, VMs (like 4 plus at a time?)

Don't buy until someone more knowledgeable chimes in.

I'm not sure there is a massive jump from 6th gen to 9th gen anyway..

I'm still on 3rd gen, and have vertigo, but that is irrelevant :-(

No my pc is used just for gaming, n the occasional video. I may be ordering today so if anyone can chime in with a reason not to buy a 9900k then I guess ill just bit the bullet n go ahead n to be fair theres only 60 pound difference between the 9700k and 9900k at mo so I may aswell get the best

The 8700K is good value on here at the moment compared to the 9700K. Selling for £40 less. Not really much between them for gaming. If you do push for the 9900K then you need to budget for a good cooler like the D15 or Dark Rock Pro 4 etc. You can get away with a cheaper option on the other two cpu's (8700K/9700K).

Daftest use case senario for a CPU I've seen in a while , especially concerning how broke you appear to be being unable to equip it properly for cooling, which will in all likely hood throttle it and perform worse anyway.

9700k is the gamer CPU, anyone recommending a 9900k over this CPU needs to re as just there thought process the difference will. Buy you a decent cooler allowing you to get the most out of the chip spending this way is the better cost effective /performance effective solution.

By all means. Disregard all advice from myself and others it's your money but why post in the first place?

I'd sooner have a few quid in my pocket for a rainy day and still have a good chip then the top of the range chip with no actual need for it and moths in the wallet.

Pretty sure the cooler you have will be barely enough for the CPU you do have now let alone something with a die that large in comparison..... Put it this way I had your cooler on a 955be back in the day and it was cack then...

To be fair, he didn't ask for CPU recommendations - he says he wants a 9900k and didn't ask to be argued down to an 8700k or 9700k.

Don't dispute that so appolgies if it came off as arguing, but in reality I'm trying to advise him off what's more appropriate rather than wasting cash
