Quick question

To be fair, he didn't ask for CPU recommendations - he says he wants a 9900k and didn't ask to be argued down to an 8700k or 9700k.

So if someone is clearly making a decision based on flawed logic and states they can barely afford the chip, let alone a decent cooler, you think it's better to just ignore the obvious problems and not offer better help/advice? How about when someone is looking to self harm and asks where's cheapest for razor blades?

Op, it really sounds like you need better sources of info, why not post a proper spec/usage thread in the upgrade forum with a budget and get some decent advice for your usage?

Don't be silly - we're talking about a processor here, not someone's mental health. That was an absolutely absurd comment.

Of course a forum is about offering advice, but why take offence when someone refuses advice about something they didn't originally ask about? If he'd asked if a 9900k was best for gaming and everyone told him it wasn't, then fair enough. What he said was that he wanted a 9900k and if his cooler would fit. Why take offence if the OP wants this CPU? Why the need to argue him into a lesser CPU? If he's skint, that's something for him to sort out. Accept it and move on.

I took the point you made and advanced it to a point no reasonable person would feel comfortable with, clearly you see the absurdity of doing so, just as I see the same in your original post, that was my whole point. For some reason you seem to think I and others have somehow taken offence, personally I can’t see why you’ve chosen to reach that conclusion, personally I see someone making a choice that doesn’t seem a good fit for the stated usage case based on minimal/questionable sources of information, especially when the op is going to have to compromise cooling to hit a financial point, I have suggested they take a step back and reconsider, no hate/outrage/offence - the only person who seems to see anything like that is you. If ‘thinking about it’ before blowing seemingly his entire liquidity is me being ‘offended’ then that’s a pretty warped outlook you have :D

Hey guys lets not get into a argument over me haha, I appreciate both and all the input ive received here. Money is a issue but not in a way itll be to much of a problem, I just cant afford to buy endless parts. When the best cpu is only 60 pound more than the one without HT in my view I might aswell get the best one. Also ive decided to go with the Asus AIO watercooling unit

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus...cooler-with-oled-display-240mm-hs-04h-as.html

Its gd all round because now I have a maximus hero xi board with a asus 1080 (gd one mind) cost me 900 when I bought it from here. A lovely Phantek evolv-x case, a M2 and 2 other evo ssd`s, vengeance 3200mhz ram 16gb and the 9900k with cooler. Once fitted I will then buy the asus 1200w psu new on the market with a new M2 and mayb 32gb of ram. Im good the future and very happy. I just need that fanatec steering wheel I got my eyes on haha

I hope you all think this cooler is good enough?

Thankyou for fully explaining , the way the OP read, it was a case of your skint but sod it. So nice to get a bit of clarity .... personally i think its an overpriced option , but at least its more than sufficient for your decided processors needs. and if its not going to cripple you than fire away. but as above there are overall better options, if its substance your going for that is. if its style/substance the one chosen will be more than ample.

Guys where do you think I shud mount the radiator and fans in my Evolv-x case? Front or top, the front has 2 fans already in it for drawing air in. so the top would be ideal but if you think the front n putting the 2 fans at the top then plz say

Thanks guys

Basically, when water cooling, the coolest air can be found using the radiator as an intake. In your case this will then drop the heat inside the case, affecting graphics card temperatures. So it's like a balance between graphics card and CPU temperatures. In my opinion your 9900k is likely to be a hot little guy so I'd consider radiator as front intake, sensible exhaust (maybe 2 fans) on top/rear. If possible also place a fan which will supply the graphics card with fresh air too.

Just to go back to an earlier point, have you confirmed your PSU is up to the job? A 1080 and 9900k could probably pull 450W+ from the wall with a liquid cooler added in. I'd be a little concerned pulling 2/3 of the maximum current on a cheap PSU. On a good quality PSU it's sensible to aim for about 50% typical load, and stay below 90% at all times. Do you know the model?

Ive received the cpu and cooler today, funny thing... it was just in a box, no plastic covering it, the cpu is lose just inside a tiny cardboard box. The first time ive ever got a cpu in that state and its the most expensive one I bought. Is this normal or has there been some mistake, it better work. Anyway ive decided to buy a new psu this thurs, now ive got my eyes on this.... is it good enough?

Thankyou, I cant wait to put it all together

Edit: im also going to get this, gd idea?

If it’s an oem one (or specifically binned) then yeah I think that’s normal. How I received my speed binned one, in a small box, though there was some foam.

Your paying a premium for the PSU with the ASUS tax, but the unit itself is more the capable of powering your rig. Will have no issue with that 850w unit with that CPU and any GPU you throw into the build, even overclocked.

Ive just got a shock, I mustve had my Corsair psu in my last case which is in the spare room, this is a super flower 750w model number is sf-750f14mg
Is this gd enough, the leads are bit cack on it, but I might just keep it if its ok n use the money to buy a extra ssd in a month

Thanks for your help Radox and everyoneelse whos helped me.

btw what does a binned cpu mean

Yes, that PSU should also similarly be fine.

Binned CPU refers to the fact it has been tested and described as being able to achieve XYZ speeds when overclocked. When overclocked, Silicon Lottery is at play, and some samples are better then others at being able to overclock. Binned CPU's are where a number get tested, categorised and sold accordingly being able to achieve varying speeds when overclocked. On OCUK's site for example, you will see the 9900k binned and sold as being able to achieve, 5.1Ghz, 5.0 GHz etc and priced accordingly: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/pc-c...eed-binned-processors/socket-1151-coffee-lake Idea is to somewhat eliminate the randomness (at a price!) compared to buying retail where you could get an exceptional chip, meh chip or something in between.
