my mum and dad are paying for the insuarance atm at a cost of £961 for, in order

1. Dad (Full)
2. Me (Full)
3. Mum (Full)

so my mum phones up and asks how much would it be to put my girlfriend on the insuarance since she is now living with us, now she has passed her test last may and hasnt drove since passsing it and hasnt been on an insurance policy... ever.

now can someone tell me why the hell the new qoute with her on it is £961? im rather ****** off atm, its ridiculous that she is getting onto the insuarance for FREE!

i wouldnt say that now, she hasnt drove in nearly a year and took 3 goes to pass her test, ive been driving over a year and havnt had a single claim or accident, im a sensible driver and have calmed down a lot since i have passed my test, yes i still rake around but only when the conditions are good and back off when i know enoughs enough, ive been driving the car long enough now to know how far it can be pushed before the bak end comes out or the wheels lock no one on this forum can say they dont rag the nuts off their car now and again

i just feel that it may as well be called discrimination that im the one that gets the flack from the insurance and get tarred with the same brush that the twonks do

They don't take each individual case on its own merit you know, don't take it so personally.

You are a young male who has just passed his test, she is a young female which who has just passed hers. Statistically young male drivers represent more financial risk to insurers than female ones, its not discrimination, it is economics.

Dont know why its a rant anyway, its cost you nothing :)

yea but if i wasnt on the insurance and she was im sure it would be more expensive with her on it as wellthan it would be with just my mum and dad.

they are paying ~400 for both of them on an 1.8 mondeo

they were paying 1400 at the start with the 3 of us on an 1.1 saxo

Yeah, so?

As with Jez, I can't see your problem. You're getting something for free.

Yes, as she represents more risk than your parents. Its not rocket science matey :p

I think he means that she's getting free insurance, so costs nothing...

You are complaining that they are insuring your girlfriend for FREE? am I right on this.....just slightly confused, as you seem to be upset at this!

no, im annoyed at the fact that there is no difference in price when a young female driver who hasnt drove in a year, so is still an R driver, is being brought on to a policy and the price doesnt change, im not annoyed that my mum and dad arent charging her

Its the fact that the insurance company aren't charging that you should be grateful for, and seems to highlight nothing but there's no real basis for a rant except you don't understand how risk affects insurance policies.

She is less of a risk than you, why would it be any more expensive? Young men cause lots of serious accidents, young women cause tiny prangs. Younbg men cost insurers more :)

lol, yea right, not when they overtake you then sit in the slow lane at 60 then decide to come into the fast lane again without indicating or looking, nearly running me off the road as i overtake them resulting on me slamming the brakes on and blareing the horn

I think he's generally ranting that Females get lower insurance premiums.
Which, to be fair, is annoying if you consider yourself a safe driver.

You just got something for free, be happy. Only one person can drive the car at a time anyway, and the excess will still be just as high for you or her.

If it hasn't already been said to death already, only one person can drive the car at any given time. The insurers are at the most risk of a claim (statistically) when you are driving. When your girlfriend is driving, you clearly aren't so the risk is less. Therefore the premium should actually reduce ;).

If it's that much of an issue to you, ask her to contribute to the cost anyway.

I really don't see how her getting 'free' insurance could be a bad thing :/

edit, ive been driving for over a year and a half
So, thats irrelevant as you're not on your own policy. I'd imagine your parents already have a no claims discount on that policy.
yes i still rake around but only when the conditions are good and back off when i know enoughs enough, ive been driving the car long enough now to know how far it can be pushed before the bak end comes out or the wheels lock no one on this forum can say they dont rag the nuts off their car now and again
Sounds to me like you're plenty enough risk to justify the amount you're parents are paying.

You really think that knowing the 'limits' of the car and knowing when the back end will step out makes you a safer driver? I'm quite sure the majority of women have absolutely no idea of these things. Why, because they have no desire to push a car anywhere near these limits.

I know that there are exceptions, but statistics dont lie, and thats what the insurers will follow.
