Lol, ta. From what I can see though it's just directions, no lane information and nothing painted on the road itself..
Yeah but under the circumstances staying left is obviously safest. You are free to take the right-hand lane but obviously you have to check it's clear before you maneuver.
I'd be in the left lane for anything up to 12o'clock on the sign, unless its the first exit.
For that image, if both sides are dual carriageway (hard to tell) then I think either lane is fine for what really is straight across, if not then left lane only.

I think whilst I might be technically and morally in the right if I had been driving in more cautious/defensive mode it probably wouldn't have happened.

Assuming no one else is under the impression that left for turning right is fine!
I think the cast iron rule here is that you need to pay attention to what other drivers are doing, because even though you may be right, someone else is bound to be screwing something up.

30? 3 is about the max you can ever lose in one shot. It will almost certainly go 50/50 unless you can prove otherwise by either video/witness evidence or a confession. Upshot of this is that you have the option of just not claiming if your damage isn't too bad, even if you were blatantly at fault, keep your NCB and have no claim record.
That roundabout looks very familiar... not in the walsall/wolverhampton is it?
If its not, theres a roundabout in that area with near the exact same layout, and ive been forced somewhere I dont want to go, even though I was indicating and positioned appropriately, because the guy with his mates was too focused on his satnav than other road users.

i don't get why there's this misunderstanding of all this 12 o'clock business... it's irrelevant. It's simply an aid to teaching you the principals of roundabouts.
If there's a 2 exit roundabout, one lane on all of the roads and irrespective of where the exits are positioned, and unless signposted otherwise or road marked, the left hand lane is the first exit and the right hand lane is the 2nd exit.
if there's a 3 exit roundabout, one lane on all of the roads and irrespective of where the exits are positioned, and unless signposted or road marked otherwise, it's the left hand lane for the first 2 and the right hand lane for the 3rd.
i don't know what the legal bits are, but that is without a doubt "best practice". Otherwise you are potentially having to cross lanes to get to your exit and the crossing-lanes bit is the key. If there's 2 lanes of traffic on the exit road you don't need to cross lanes to get to your exit so the scenario changes and you can use the right hand lane on the 2nd exit.

Yeah, standard roundabout "you are correct but will get screwed over". If he claims he indicated to move over it was your responsibility to get out of his way.

He wasn't indicating and he gave me no chance of getting out of the way, but that'll count for nothing no doubt..

Just spoke to the guy and he's now claiming the collision took place at the second exit, even though I have to go straight over for the first exit to get to the M25 to go home.

unless he's got an independent witness it will just go 50:50 and you claim off yours, he claims off his. As already said, you'll only loose 3 years of your ncb.
If he fakes a witness, i suggest you do the same.
When one person claims it happens at one roundabout, and the other claims it happened at another, without witnesses theres no way to proove who is right, especially with it being a roundabout incident. Roundabouts nearly always go 50:50 as they are so difficult to proove who is right and who is wrong.

I've got a £500 excess, damage to my car will be less than that so if it goes 50:50 I';ll be lucky to get any of that back plus I lose some of my NCB.
He also said to me am I sure I want to go through insurance for my losses, presumably meaning he would covers his own damages too which to me sounds like he knows he's in the wrong..he did admit he was in the wrong lane
