Wasn't entirely sure whether to start a new thread or find another one to put this in...either way, i'm sure this could be useful for a few people. :)

I've decided to try and budget myself a bit and i've been playing around on Excel. I know i will be getting £2600 (Slightly more but i've rounded down to give myself a bit of a buffer) on the 17th September. My next loan/grant/whatever will be in my bank account on the 1st January.

So, i've worked out i have £2600 for 96 days which is around £28 a day or £189 a week...is it possible to actually live off that? Quite realistic? I will have a bit of money saved up but i'm not sure yet...i'll add that on closer the time and fingers crossed, i may have a job but until it's confirmed, i'm going to budget for the worst.

Or perhaps i have too much spare time...

How did people cope with just their loans or whatever? Jobs? Did your parents help? I just don't want to be crippled near the end of the year. :o

Would have thought £189 a week is more than enough. I'm going in late September and should have little over £100 a week for the time I'm there. £20/£25 a week on Food, the rest on drink and entertainment. Don't forget to factor in other things, like books, equipment and other stuff you'll need

£200 a week as a student? If thats not including rent thats absolutely loads. More than I usually have at Uni and I run a car on it!

£189 is easy. My min is probs around £70-80 if I'm careful with my spending. Standard is around £120

That's more than enough to live off. If you're buying lunch rather than making your own food, you'll probably spend at most £25 a week. I don't know where you're going, but in Edinburgh it costs around £40 a month for a bus pass, so I'd guess other cities would be similar. Look up the main bus company in your city, they should have information about that sort of thing.

If that budget isn't covering normal bills, you'll be more than comfortable.

Sounds about right, similar here. £189/week is more than enough if that does not include rent.

It all depends on what your rents earn, which is silly IMO, coz it puts pressure on parents to give you more money to keep up with what other people are getting... It was the same with EMA in Sixth Form

Naud

they earn NOTHING though , got made redundant in march :/ i rang them up and they told me it goes on the pervious years earnings , still only 19kish . even if my parent had died id still get what they offered me :/

dont have the foggiest how OP gets that a term, that 3 or 4 times more money a week than anyone i know gets , unless hes mistaken

I have a feeling the OP might have made a mistake. Nigh on 7000/year seems pretty high for SL. What Uni is it?

Well i have got around £25 a week to spend on food and bills. Now im going to have to have a tight budget! People who have got around £100 to spend on that, i wonder how your going to cope??
