Quick upgrade for 6870?

?

I asked why your so low to the ground looking up, its an unusual position to take

I just noticed, your on an empty server.

My fov of 85 and 1920x1200 maybe, Who knows, all I know is now you post a 200 fps screenshot when your other screenshot was 123.

What trickery is this.

Aye true, bf4 on 780 averages 83, and on a 290 averages 94, If only all games showed higher fps like that the 290 would be the better card for less money.

Hey guys, I've just installed the Sapphire R9 290. Just to confirm my 650W PSU is enough?

I was reading online and I'm sure it said 750W lol.

Thanks :)

I'm running my 290X and 4770K with an OCZ 600W psu so yeah as long as you have a good quality one then nothing to worry about.

At load and overclocked I use about 350W-400W max and the includes my monitor and speakers.

Lol :)

One final thing it has two DVI ports. Does it not matter which one I plug my monitor into? Is there a number 1?

I ask because my 6870 caused some problems with this. They were different but it was never made very clear I felt!

Thanks

You can use either. I use the top one personally but it makes no difference.

Did you manage to oc your cpu as i think i saw a thread in overclocking section u started but i didnt keep up with it. It would help a lot if it was oc. 4.5ghz should be easy by just upping the multi on a 2500k afaik.

Hey Skeeter, thanks for the interest! Just been working on all of this today. So I have the CPU currently overclocked at 4.2GHz, as I'm scared to do anymore lol. Not sure if I can or not really, I think my temps etc are OK though.

My new Samsung Evo is installed with steam games now on that and my R9 290 is also installed :D Just testing things out now with graphics on high (though its DayZ standalone).

Is there anything I need to be doing with my GPU since installing? I have installed CCC and latest drivers etc.

Thanks guys :)

EDIT: Forgot to mention the card just about fit in my Coolermaster 690 :p

Just maybe do a clean install of drivers perhaps using DDU then stick the latest back on, might not need to but i would have probably.

GPUZ if u wana monitor temps of gfx card etc.

I think theres a normal and turbo mode on them cards arnt they like a switch on the card? Dunno what usually is prefered but u can ask others about it if it has one.

U can push ur cpu to 4.5 easy dont be shy just jam the multi to 45 and if it crashes in games just up the volts a tiny bit, dont go past 1.35 tho i think.

Thanks again for the help. I'm not sure about the turbo mode to be honest. It was the pre-overclocked variation anyway and it has gone up to its boost I think.

Is there anyway I can benchmark it or something? Then maybe you guys will tell if its relatively normal?

Haha I will try a bit higher, just going to wait to see how everything is at the moment I think.

Cheers :)

Hey guys,

So I have had the card a few weeks now and it has handled everything I have thrown at it!

There are a couple of things I am curious about. First of all what is the normal temperature that this card will rise to during games? After having HWinfo running whilst playing DayZ and Planetside 2 the temperature is reaching quite high levels:

Should I have something like MSI afterburner running with its fan profile? I think the AMD ones are pretty bad but I might be wrong. Also should I be using AMD overdrive? I have seen it mentioned in various places but its not currently enabled.

Thanks guys!

Those temps look good to me. No need to unlock overdrive, just use afterburner/trixxx or your overclocking app of choice.

Thanks for the response again :)

So the stock fan control is fine? I don't really have an overclocking app of choice either to be honest. Not really sure which would be best and how I go about using etc.

The same goes for the fans as I imagine there are better alternatives?

Cheers!
