quick Western Digital Q

Not the same thing.

The AAKS has one less platter and seems to be deemed as quieter.

Can't find much more on the matter.

ive just noticed it got printed "recertified" on the drive also WTF!!!!

does that mean its second hand/refurbished or somthing???....think im just gonna take this back to the shop.

yeh, just checked WD pruduct codes, and seems there is no AAKS in 500gb, just KS.

although the place i got the drive from listedd it as KS on the description, and AAKS in the product number, are they one and the same i wonder..

Damnit - I hate the way that certain resellers label their drives. I thought I had bought a new 250GB 2500AAKS drive, but on closer inspection I bought a KS version instead.

I have looked through my receipts, and didn't make this mistake a year ago on a drive (250GB 2500AAKS) that recently died. I RMA'd it, and have just discovered that WD have sent me back a 250GB 2500KS drive.

Have I been returned an inferiour product?

WD are notoriously bad at distinguishing different models but the AAKS definitely exists as a) a separate product line and b) in 500Gb

The only thing stopping me taking the drive back, is that thats on the american WD site, and the AAKS is the only 500gb drive listed, theres is no KS.

also, looking at the popular online retailers, no one seems to sell both models, its either one or the other, and the prices are all simmilar, so im a bit stumped there....I mean I would take the drive back on principal as I detest being mis-sold things by shifty salesmen, but I need to find a reliable bit of info showing the difference :(
