Quid Co - Explain

Since I started using quidco in Sept I've had £67 back and am waiting on a further £120.

All for things I'd have bought anyway, so really can't complain. Aside from cashback, they often have discount/voucher codes too, so even if you don't end up getting the stated cash back, you can usually save some money. :)

Topcashback actually lies, I popped on there to check some rates before and quidco had a much better rate, so they don't always have the best one (despite claiming they do). I'd never heard of anything but quidco until recently, and to be honest at £5pa I really don't mind sticking with them, they have been great. :)

Hi,
As title really.

What are the downsides to it, as i cant see where QuidCo themselves make more than £5 a year off us...?

Thanks in advance all. :)

they almost certainly take a commission for your purchase.

The advertised cashback rate is after their cut.

For the seller, its a bit like advertising spending. Except at least with quidco its more traceable as you know how much quidco has brought you in extra sales

You can never know for certain how many extra sales a magazine advert has brought you for example. Just random sampling of customers to give you an "estimation"

From their site:

Each year Quidco retains the first £5 earned on members' cashback purchases to fund the site, and after that the shopper receives 100% of the commission they make from shopping via Quidco.

Had a couple of good deals with quidco, nothing on the scale of some of you guys though :P

Got a TV from M & S which I sent back for a refund, still got paid £35 on quidco.
Got one years sub to the RAC for £28 online + £20 cashback, so in the end the cost was £8 for the year.

It works for retail now as well, so I registered my debit card and I've had a few tracks, it's not much, something like £3 from 4 shops but it all adds up, I also got some very nice cashback like 9%.

For you the customer it is a rare case of 'free money'.

Shop around for the cheapest price of the item you want. Topcashback/Quidco it if you can. You get a percentage of the sale (usually pre VAT), or a fixed amount.

Cash in when you want. I frequently get a pound or so every eBay transaction. With all the other online shopping I do I end up taking about £100/year.

The big ones are getting insurance or a new mobile contract.

that just means they make their money in other ways then.

Probably some kind of fee the retailer pays to be on there or something.

I tried a stab at Quidco once. Their first 'assignment' for me was to wager $25 on Party Poker. It had to be in dollars but you could choose what game you wanted, so I betted on horse racing. I spread the bet in 5 x $5, so 5 different horses. The idea was that when the $25 was wagered, you were meant to be given so-called "party points", and this is what you needed in order to fulfil the Quidco requirement. All of my horses lost and the party points never came through, so I ended up out-of-pocket.

I never bothered with Quidco again.

After that, I tried Myvoice and that was much better. You fill out surveys. The return is approx 10p for every minute of your time taken. It's slow but it does add up and when you hit £20 in credit, you can redeem it for vouchers at popular stores such as HMV, Sainsbury's and Smiths. Occasionally you get screen out early. If that happens, they'll give you a small 10p consolation.

The other one I tried was 'Ciao!' That one was always screening me out with no consolation, and one particular survey dragged me in for 20 minutes only then to screen me out, so bye bye Ciao.

Wow Darryl. If you've got more than £5k off Quidco, I guess you did that Party Poker thing. Where did I go wrong?

I think you confused mate. Quidco is when you buy things you get cash back. I.e. if you get car insurance through quidco you might get like £50 cash back, or if you buy things from retailers like HMV and such, you might get 5% cash back.

The more you spend the more you stand to get back, that guy with £5k cash back must have spent a lot or something!

Check out the deals on the page you'll see what I mean. https://www.quidco.com/home/ - No idea what this party poker thing you're talking about is!

It was 2 years ago when I tried Quidco but I'm pretty certain that it was them that offered me cashback if I wagered $25 on that casino site. I still get emails from Quidco offering cashback from other things like you said, insurance, HMV etc but I just ignore them now.
