Quietest case fans

SilenX iXtrema Pro's have a rated dBa of only 11 !!

I don't own any, but i'm thinking of buying a few now :p

Havn't seen any that have been rated quiter than these, the Silent Eagles are 19 dBa.

please don't. It's a common known fact that while SilentX are quiet they are not as quiet as they claim and don't push anywhere near as much airflow. In fact they are an average quiet fan...usually rebranded addas or some other well known brand, like the Ambers are rebranded YSTechs. If you are not going to volt mod a fan (your cheapest option would be some very nice Yate Loons) you would get better results with Scythe S-Flex (1200 or 800), Nexus, Noctua (1200 or 800) or some of the Papst models OcUK sell. Or Sharkoon Silent Eagles 1000rpm though less airflow then the others I mentioned. Testing over on SPCR has revealed the quietest fans operate around 20db-22db (Nexus and Noctua being the most notable). Even testing in an anachoic chamber has revealed fans do not operate below 20db and all this 11db or 8db in the case of some fans I have read about (I think the Slfex 800rpm) is just marketing tosh.

They make those numbers up! Seriously -they are pretty loud for their airflow.

Could be an expensive mistake!

The AC Fan 12's are rated 10-23db over their working range and they will shift a lot more air than either the Sharkoons or the SilenX's.

Noctua fans... expnsive but brilliant.

Push a lot of air and make no noise.

The 800rpm fans are inaudible! and push 35cfm. Quoted as 8dB iirc.

Their 1200rpm fans are great too - 55cfm @ 17dB

Few thanks for the heads up guys! I wont be buying them then.

I'd rather pay the money and buy somthing good than spend to little and be disapointed. So you would go for the Silent Eagle's? ( I'm also after as quite as I can get )

Nice one...I was thinking of these fans too, but not easy to come by. As they use PWM do you need a 4pin header on your mobo. Not sure how many the 680i has.

If you read the blurb - they can power them all off the CPU fan header

I concur...the 800rpm fans are the quietest fans I ever heard. and worth it in my opinion. I'd say they are around the 20db mark. 24db I think for the 1200rpm ones. At least that was what I saw measured. Manufaturers specs don't mean a lot when it comes to noise/airflow. Depending on your setup you may need more airflow. I found the 1200rpm Noctuas a shade noisier then the equivalent Scythe S-Flex. I don't think the Eagles will give you the airflow of either the Scythe or S-Flex.

However if you can get your hands on some Yate Loons for a fiver each you can volt mod them and get similar performance/quiteness I reckon. That's what I probably should have done but was too lazy.

Im looking for a couple of really quite case fans with blue leds, which ones can you lot recommend

Or start a new thread in Cooling & Overclocking?

Thought i'd bring this thread back from the dead. :)

Now that OCUK stock the Noctua fans, i was wondering which to get. Either the Notua or the S-Flex. I know a few people on here have said the Noctua are very quiet, but i'm also after a fan that pushes a decent amount of air. I've seen some comments saying the Noctua aren't very good at being an exhaust fan and just wondering if those who have them could comment on that?

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17676090&highlight=noctua

If this is correct am i best off just going for the S-Flex?

I switched from scythe sflex to noctua and found them pretty much the same with the nod going to noctua for being a little quieter. get whichever is cheapest. the yateloons at 7volts are probably the best value giving comparable performance.

As for the vapors review, I am no expert but I had nexus fans before and the noctuas physically feel like they push a lot more air. However I have heard the Noctuas are not great on heatsinks. I just use them as case fans as they were designed.

I've got a Tuniq Tower but not got any intention of replacing the standard fan just yet. Was just going to use the S-Flex or Noctua as intake and exhaust fans in my case. If they both push a similar, decent amount of air but the Noctua are a touch quieter, then i may as well go for them. Cheers Flanno. :)

Ive had my Accoustic Dustproof 120mm fans for over a year now... there good but ive noticed even after a 2-3 weeks u can see dust cluttered around the fins, so although sorta dust proof blocking it still mounts up and amount thats passed and gone on my heatsink is incredible

Notice my X800XT the exhaust heatsink was dust cluttered as well, think I need to get a self re-charging Air duster unit Can ?

Such a thing ?

Why should we need to spend £5 on cans of Air when its free and around us :p
