Quit Warcraft.

ok i'm also considering giving up WoW, but would like a replacement. I like the game play but would like something a bit more futuristic maybe, but i like team play, not though 40 man raids as these are a real pain in the ****, i think Blizzard made a mistake making all the big instances 40 man. Plus im a little bored of being a tank, id like something thats isnt as cartoony as WoW. but like everyone else i will miss it and will keep an eye on the threads that pop up.

any ideas?

I still enjoy a good MMORPG session once in a while. I just make sure that I ONLY play it when I have the time and don't go out of my way just to get some more time on it. I'll admit to losing a few hours kip once in a while due to playing till the early hours but I never miss out on plans/friends because of them.

No time in life for such time consuming games anymore. The only games that have taken up my hours have been finalfantasy (ages ago). But i agree with everything you said in your first post. More to life springs to mind i guess. But everyone has their own opinions. :p

i know a high lvl player who had enough, but he kept coming back to wow. so what he decided was to get banned, by insulting everyone in general chat. He managed to get a perm ban quite quickly :D never want back to wow again.. i think

The new instances in TBC will be 25 man and there will be pretty good gear from the new 5 man ones which obviously will be beaten a little by the raiding gear but the raiding gear is mostly geared towards more raiding.

If you've decided you quitting though, then fair enough as i've quit once or twice already.

I played the trial, didn't get past the (VERY LONG) tutorial because I just didn't get on with it/had other commitments. If I had the chance again and loadsa spare time I'd start again but I had other things on my mind at the time.

But as was earlier mentioned by me and richyfingers. You make the game how it is, if you want all the best stuff etc then you have to put the time in. If you want to have a laugh and still have a social life still play but just don't go for all the best stuff.

In TBC you can pvp a few hours a week and end up getting the pvp gear like everyone else as there is NO ranks at all and the honor doesn't decay hence everyone in the end will end up with equal gear it'll just take longer for the really casual gamers.

I myself play some nights and go out others, it's down to you to not let the game control your life and if you let it then it shows you have no will power.

I see what some of you are saying about other games being the same and it all being down to the player. I mean yeah i plan on getting an x box and i play cs for the odd hour but i think wow is structured in a way that just forces you to spend hours a time.
Well ill advise that ya dont let it get too serious. I wasnt even that bad compared to some. I 'only' had about 70 days played. Some people have double or more.

Good post, I think at times we have all been guilty of spending too much time infront of the computer. I've spent hours playing poker and cs online, sometimes the best thing in life are the simpliest.

Get out, go for a jog. See your mates. Talk to your parents.

Its a bit difficult though when the game pretty much demands you play it 24/7 to have any chance of getting the best gear. Dont have the best gear or even kitted out in good blues and your looked on like your a fumbling idiot. Once your in it its difficult to get out, you've spent all that time on a character so dont want to throw it all away, so you carry on some more, and put even more hours in making it yet harder to quit.

Playing Warcraft (or doing anything else that gives you happiness) isn't 'sad' at all. As long as it doesn't harm anybody else, people are free to play what they like. I could say wasting your time in a gym is 'actually quite sad when ya think about it' but I don't judge people as everybody is different.

The difference is, Yes the gym could be deemed sad, but its actually beneficial to your fitness and general well being. Sitting at a PC for excessive hours draws you away from family, and it makes your fitness plummet.

I used to be so close to my mam, however now after spending so long at the pc i barely sit in the same room as her. Which is indeed sad :(

Im not telling people they must quit, but warning them, that if you get too far into it, you may regret the wasted time when it comes to an end. I know i do (and i was never a hardcore raider), Even sitting around a mates house, or having mates round. Even playing on an xbox or something is an improvement.

Social interaction on an online game cant compare to socialising in person with friends or family.

What you're talking about is addictive and obsessive behavior which can happen with anything. The gym I used to go to had a couple of guys who were there virtually all the time because they were obsessive about it. You can get addicted to exercise as much as anything else and then it stops being healthy.

Basically I take your point about becoming locked up in a game but I get a bit miffed when it's constantly WoW that gets it in the neck when there are plenty of other games/activities to become additcted too in an unhealthy manner.

And who are you to say this is fact, you cant. Everything in life has pros and cons, thats just the way it is - its up to the individual to make the choice at the end of the day.

Sitting at the PC could be deemed as beneficial as you know how much money you could save, you could go on for ages.

I for one used to have a addiction for WoW, 150 days playtime~ and i quit in April - i'll let you do the math. I don't intend to ever play another mmorpg again.

I don't know how you can say social interaction in a online game can't compare to socializing with friends face to face, i've met a few people face to face that i met through online gaming and there almost exactly like they are online. Again its all about personal preference .
