Colt turkey means cold turkey - don't eat the gum (you're prolonging the cravings). It's the most successful way of stopping, and far less painful than paying for patches / gum:
The biggest help for me at the start was one of the many free apps which logs the exact number of hours/minutes/seconds since your last smoke, and also highlighted the health benefits as each day went by.
After a couple of months I also took up running nothing motivates you more than being able to easily do something that you couldn't when you were a smoker.
Seriously though - cravings are your enemy, but they only last a few seconds.
Fight every one with every fibre of your being for a few seconds until it passes. Then you should be OK.
If you want to go cold turkey, then quit the gum, don't use patches and don't vape.
Be strong and find your own way of battling the cravings. Treat them as if the represent something you hate, or they are something which will result in something you are afraid of if you give in.
Don't let them win.
Try to avoid situations where you would normally smoke. Not completely possible, but you can reduce them and break the cycle of brain association.
Keep your hands busy, do things in places you can't smoke, find a hobby, use the gum/patches, after things you would normally have a ciggy change that routine over to having a piece of chocolate or some fruit
I sort of wish I could quit smoking but I just love it too much, I only smoke a few a day and I enjoy the hell out of them. With a coffee or a glass of wine? Oh christ, I'm in heaven
Best thing I did (Most successful, more than 12 months) was the NHS stop smoking service, they give you NRT on prescription and show you how much your lungs and breathing are improving using a device you breathe into.
If I were to smoke, and quit, I'd gradually cut down the number I smoke, maybe transfer to vaping or some other alternative, and then gradually cut that down, maybe mix nicotine infused and nicotine free e-liquid, then try vaping nicotine free for a while, then stop.
I also downloaded the QuitNow app. Not the greatest tool in the world but shows how much you spend, how much you would have smoked etc. Seeing me reach 100 days the other week and I would have smoked 1000 (ONE THOUSAND) cigarettes in that time. Made me feel sick !!
everytime you have craving for a cigerette just have some normal chewing gum, some little sweet, a carrot stick or alike.
Keeping going, if you want to give up then you can.. just need some will power/determination
