QX6700 Quad Core Should i sell now

^^ what he said, you could also have a poor contact between the cores and the ihs... you wouldn't be the 1st person...

Q6600 = two E6600s

One E6600 = 65W
One Q6600 = 130W

Im running at about 135W on my E6600 atm.

So yea, 40C load!? AHAHAHA Firefox load? Use orthos and ull get 55C. Unless you live at -10.

umpf, i just changed mobo, maybe put too much paste on, temps now idling at around 55.

Perhaps its reporting correctly, perhaps its a bad heatsink install

in a word yes. When using thermal paste, less is more
True, you should only have a very thin sheen of paste and it should be evenly spread, dont do what somepeople do and just put a big dollop on then stuck the HS on...

I'd check your room temp too, I cant overclock my current rig atm because my room gets so hot from the sun :( That and the fact it has 4 HDD + 2 DVD in it, the intake fan is busted and the cpu fan has so much gunk on it its unreal. If I wasnt selling it i might be bothered.

My QX6700 quad core is at 3.2 on a Tuniq and my case is next to a radiator (which is allways on) :p and it runs fine, just check your paste and like everyone has said just a small amount.

Im now using lavasys EVEREST to monitor my temps, core1 is at 43, cores 2, 3, 4 are at 38 idle

Those are the same idle temps Im getting with lavasys EVEREST with a Q6600 idle, but its core 2 thats higher than the rest for me.

core 1 -38c
core 2 -43c
core 3 -39c
core 4 -38c

cpu temp 26c

on load for 30 mins I get cpu temp around 50c, individual cores around 70c

Which temp do I go by, when stating the temp of my cpu, cpu temp or the individual core temps?

My QX6700 is running too hot at the momentm especially as the weather is getting warmer and summer is approaching. My room is always very warm anyway even without the radiator on. Right now idling it is 63 degs!! Currently it is cooled (hardly) by a Zalman CNPS9700 which I will soon sell because I'm going to have to go water cooling with these temps! I dread to think what my load temps are but the BIOS is set to shut the system off once 73 degs is reached.

sorted out heatsink, re-applied paste, currently looking at core 1 which has the highest reading of 48 deg, just browsing web and winamp, emule.....which is pretty idle. Im happy again
