R.I.P Abit

I had no idea Abit were in trouble either.I'll never forget my sckt 478 Canterwood IC7 Max 3 mobo, ran it for years with barely a hiccup!

I hope they recover and comeback to the U.K market, lack of competition for existing manufacturers means higher prices for us.:(

I gave up with A-Bit following a terrible experience with a KT7A-Raid board. In two years of trying I never got the thing stable, despite umpteen different BIOSes. Even so, I am said to see them go as in the end, we'll all suffer as lack of competition increases.

Real pity, I've had my first Abit product for a week or so now (B-Grade IP35Pro) and its without doubt the best board I've ever owned.

And my 2Ghz e2180 is singing happily @3Ghz with its stock intel cooler! - Something my previouis ASRock board could only dream of.

I'd happily have bought Abit again. :(

It was sad news

But, i was talking to a friend across the pond lastnight, one of his relatives works for gigabyte, he was sure his relative had told him sometime ago that gigabyte had made made welcome some more employees that previously worked for abit

So if this is the case (maybe i'm the last to learn this info ? ) then looks like gigabyte may of had the choice of the cream from abit (so to speak)

Well as long as we don't end up with 1 or 2 mainboard manufacturers things should continue to move on techno-wise :)

Their site went down shortly after them closing down. But its back up now (or atleast it was the other day)

So I'm not sure who re-hosted it.

IMO they were at the top of their game, any ideas why they just gave up?

I only ever bought one Abit board when everyone was singing there praises, and had nothing but trouble with it so I will not miss them.
Lets hope there demise does not allow other manufacturers to push up prices.

abit or more probably their parent company.
they have said that they will retain support for existing models for the warranty period.

they couldn't make the margins that their parent company wanted & if you look at the financial reports of mobo makers for the last 9 months they are probably glad that they pulled the plug when they did.
I've heard a rumour that their facilities are still in use just churning out stuff for oem customers of the parent.
