R.I.P Astoria

The Metro Club is also having to go sadly too :(

I spent a lot of time there when I was in my first 2 years of uni, hadn't been in a while and was thinking of getting a few mates together to go and then I read this :(

loadsa places seem to be getting bought out by developers at the moment. i suppose nows the time to sell while club/gig goers are at a low

I never saw the venue, but I do think the condition of it affects the gig.

For example, I've been to places where it smells of damp and sick, and you spend more time thinking about how bad it smells, the sticky carpet and keeping your dinner down than enjoying the acts.

good riddance to the venue, farewell fond memories of my youth too. It wasn't a brilliant venue but i've seen many good acts in that area:

astoria 2/mean fiddler - foo fighters radio one competition (2002)
metro club - brand new (2003)
astoria - nine inch nails (2004)

more recently, underoath were pretty good there

I only ever saw 3 gigs there, the last one being Airbourne in November and whilst I had a great time, the facilities were awful, maybe it's my age, but decent toilets aren't too much to ask for, are they?
