R6 or R1

So, today I met someone with a 2002 r6 and he let me sit on it.

I immediately realised how much more comfortable it was than my FZR. The FZR isn't too uncomfortable but you can't really sit upright where as on the r6 it's a lot less aggressive.

Now I think I'm ready to get a new bike. The FZR 400 was my first sports bike and I love it. It has around 65bhp and tops out at 135. Not the quickest bike by any means but certainly not the slowest.

I love the look of a 2001 R1 but I'm not sure if I should step straight up but instead get used to riding an R6 first.

Opinions?

R1 every time but them I'm biased :D

currently got a 2001 R1 and they are a fantastic bike. So is the R6. The missus had the 2002 R6 and it was blast. Had midrange to put the new 600s to shame.

If you had a FZR you might as well jump straight on the R1 though. It will be lighter then the FZR and fantasia grunt the last of the carbed R1s has makes it a doddle to ride.

An R1 will be lighter than my FZR400?

Do want white wheels if I get one. :o

How long have you been riding? If you're still fairly new to bikes I would be getting the R6 over the R1. However, If it was me buying a 600cc supersports for the road it would not be the R6. It's a little extreme / gutless for the road in my opinion (although I have not ridden the older R6's).

Maybe try some other supersports around the same price before you decide?

EDIT: those R1's do look mighty fine though :D

A few years now.

Not sure I'd want anything other than an R1 or an R6 tbh....

I went from a ZX6R to an RSV Mille and it still makes me grin like a village idiot every time I ride it, after 8 years of ownership.

Sorry, thought you ment FZR 600. Not the 400' didn't read it properly.

Still stand by it, get the R1 :p

They really are a pussy cat if you want them to be. The missus was riding my old R1 before she even got her R6.

I'd go for the R1. Litre bikes are too fast for the road really....in fact they are too fast for a lot of the smaller tighter tracks in this country! But every now and again they give you such a rush that a 600 can't match, and if you're feeling lazy you can just use 3rd gear all day long and treat it like a twist and go :D

Having said that, I kind of wish I'd bought another GSXR750 rather than the 1000, but crazily got a cheaper price on a new 1000 than 750 :/ The 750 really is the perfect bike.

I have the 2004 R6 and its a great bike.

Mods that it really needed was a power commander and full remap.
giving me 108bhp at the wheel which is good for its age I think.

I've also treated it to SBS brake pad and braided lines & loads of carbon tartyness.

I do wish there was a little more below 8k rpms but after that anything more is just greedy as it really does fly!!

i prefer my zx6 over my zx10 so i would go for the 600cc,cheaper tax/insurance and much lighter on fuel, and you wont be far behind an r1 if your on an r6 so whats the point?

Tax is the same?

Costs £36 for both my 748S and 1098S...

Tax is cheaper if its under 600cc (used to be £45 for the year, probably more now), anything above that, even 636's, are all the same price.

1000cc bikes on the road are a total waste imo, you cant open it up anywhere without risking jail, I know the same can be said for a 600 but atleast you can hammer a gear or two before it gets silly... For instance my R1 does a true GPS 120MPH in 2nd gear (tested lap after lap at Donington!) atleast with a 600, you're under 100MPH before that happens :)

Also if you're coming from a 400, why not enjoy the increase from 60BHP to 100BHP (it will feel like a rocket ship) that'll keep you busy for a summer or more, then if you start to find it slow, move upto an R1 and you'll get that buzz all over again!

Why out of interest?

I do often feel that i'm going to either die or go to jail for a long time on the 10R :D

Finally - someone who understands of how to use a litre bike! :D

Like having a supercar and continually sticking to speed limits - er no...... :D

Bikes should make you feel alive when riding! Shortly before you might die... lol...

I'm on my fourth life and i'd still ride it that way tbh lol....;)
