R9 290X Owners Thread

Not sure on the VRM cooling and these are locked, didn't play with them all that much but they both do 1200mhz on 100mv so it's not doom and gloom.

They're completely silent on stock profile up to 70c. I set a moderate profile which was tolerable and managed to get 60c. These are pretty poor in Crossfire though. The top card, back plate and all get pretty hot.

Just as well one was free I suppose ;)

The kicker is unfortunately nobody does water blocks for Sapphires custom PCBs

Some 8GB Vapor-X porn for you. They're not fitted at the moment because of issues with the DP1.2 output and 4K panels, but thought it rude not to anyway...

Very nice and on the "Roll of Honour" again.:D:D:D

Understandable i think when they're 3 slot and that close to each other.

Yes i noticed Greg's point scoring when he mentioned you got one for free without any 'brown nosing'. Guess you like AMD Roy now then, huh? :D

Well he certainly enjoys his job lol. He's a good bloke yes, didn't really quite expect that generosity lol. I sent him some emails regarding Power Play issues and he responded in kind, also turns out he went to my high school and grew up less than a mile down the road from me. Very small world.

Yeah unfortunately that's definitely the kicker with these. Although the extra VRAM is good for 4K they're pretty poor sandwiched together. Just as well they only made 250 of them :p

Cheers Kaap.

Cool story bro, but this time i actually mean it.

What is the best 290X card to buy at this moment in time?

I have been offered a Gigabyte Radeon R9 290X WindForce OC for a good price. Is there something else you guys would recommend?

Thanks

Hi Guys,

Back again for a bit of advice. I have the Infinity Tesseract system, watercooled with 2x 290X cards. Temps are never really higher than 58c. However I'm getting a lot of screen tearing after playing for about half an hour. Like the cards are overheating but clearly they aren't.

I use Vsync all the time. The cards are rarely overclocked as I just don't need that extra power and that is left for running benchmarks only.

I did run 3dMark 11 earlier today and the pc crashed with a blue screen 3 times in succession at exactly the same point in the benchmark. Which was when the small screen comes on with those pillars all falling down etc.

Basically I just wondered what your thoughts were on this. I used to get BSOD quite often until I upped the volts 2 notches for the CPU OC which stopped them. Until now I've been gaming hassle free and its this screen tearing issue that is worrying as it just starts randomly after maybe 20 - 30 mins.

Cheers.

Use GPU-Z and look at your VRM temperature, this might be causing it. Two times I have forgotten to put my Gelid Fans up and overheated the VRM's causing black screen :|

This normally means an unstable CPU/RAM overclock.

GPUs play very part in this part of the bench (Physics test) and are very unlikely to cause a problem.
