R9 290X Owners Thread

I've just played The Forest game at 1080p and the card went to 94C yikes.

That's with the case open, it idles at 36C. What am I doing wrong(if any thing) loving it so far :)

If it is a reference 290X, use a custom fan profile and also undervolt it a bit.

Very nice! Tidy too. Are they reference cards with blocks added?

Yes the normal reference cards I have had since launch day.:)

If anyone watercools them it is important to remember to have the bios switch set to uber as with the bridge I am using above it covers the switches.:)

My Gigabyte 290x "BF4 Edition" reinstalled after returning my 970sli and upgraded with a nice HG10 / H75 cooler.

Cabling needs tidying up, but tbh I was more interested in firing it up and seeing the difference in temps and I'm looking at getting a new case soon anyway.

With the new cooling its now idling ~28c down from ~50c and getting to between 50 and 60c at load down from 95c plus, which is nice. Doesn't seem to be as noisy either, not that it bothered me much before the change of cooler.

And on the "Roll of Honour".:)

I'm at -6 at the moment and already dropped a couple of degree's at idle.

To test stability would the best way to be run Crysis for example to see how it copes with the voltage when clock speeds are maxed?

If any crashes etc are to happen can this damage my GPU?

Don't use Crysis as it is not very graphically demanding, use more modern games to test with.

I do own BF4 but when I said Crysis I ment Crysis 3 (Surely this should be good enough to test?)

Atm im at -6 and seem to be around 4 Degree's cooler and running fine.

Edit: -25 with 75c Temps and 54% fan speed which seems to have taken 5-8c off and 10% less fan speed. Think ill leave it there as it's running fine does -25 look okay to you guy's who know more about undervolting?

Crysis 3 would be ideal for testing as it does work the cards hard.

The original Crysis though is more of a CPU bottleneck test.

Hitman at 1080P is bottlenecked for Crossfire. I can just about overcome it with two 290X cards if i run my 5960X at 4.9Ghz and even then i don't completely eliminate it.

Matt any chance of you doing some Hitman benches with your 8gb 290Xs at high resolution.:)

I think i already posted some didn't i Kaap? The problem is it took me ages setting The Red Baron up and now i don't want to change things around. :(

Just double checked, you have posted a couple.:)

Having said that if anyone else has got some 8gb cards there is plenty of room on the scoreboard.:):D

Ok, time for a fresh install i think.

Uninstall drivers, restart, reinstall drivers. Don't enable overdrive, leave it locked. Just use afterburner to control fan speed and gpu clocks.

Result. :)

This under volting does not do much for mine.;)

I dialled in -49, the first number that came up and ran FS Ultra and found the temps only dropped 2c down to 42c.:p:D:cool::)

Yep i find it does not make as much difference on the 295x2 either, but on air it can help a lot. :)

On a serious note yes on air it will make a big difference.

On water it looks like it is quite easy to undervolt as the temps are already very low meaning you need less volts anyway.:)

I did a few shots and panned out....It looked empty, so a close up was the better one :D

Nice card though and good quality.

Thanks for adding Kaap, I just came to add a pic :)

Which case is it you are using ?

Titans on air in a reverse case do look good.
