R9 290X Owners Thread

I don't think you can but don't hold me too that. I always thought if you had 4gb you need another 4gb because I've seen people with the 6gb 780Ti I think wanting to sli and but not able to find another as they were a limited run.

I think you can run any 290 series card in crossfire 4gb or 8gb.

NVidia on the other hand are a complete pain in the $%^& and you have to use indentical cards.

You can add my new 290X Lightning to that list Kaap :D

Can add me to the list. MSI 290X 4G LE

Having some issues with it though it's throttling the core while playing games, read through a massive thread about about powerplay but that was last updated like a year ago and seemed driver related... the last drivers been mentioned were like 14.x.

I haven't got an overclock at all and it's really frustrating as it leads to FPS dips while gaming.

If I force an overclock through MSI Afterburner it will sit locked and temps only hit like 85C, but then it doesn't go into a 2D mode and the clocks will be at whatever I've set... which leads to higher idle temps.

Anyone still having issues like this?

Anyway, here's my photo!

Bonus photo of it next to the 7850 it replaced.

How does your 290x handle gaming today?
A better question would be:
How would your 290x of handled gaming today if you still had it?

This compares it up against the 6gb 1060 & it does surprisingly well, It does lose in most of the titles but it does get some good wins & make me wonder did I really need to upgrade?
For me it looks like the answer was No.

Still got my 4 and would sell as I don't use them but they have waterblocks and a 4 way bridge fitted which makes it difficult to sell.:)

Shame, I keep everything, the parts, the boxes & all the little knick-knacks they contain so it's all together safe for if I eventually sell it on a few years later. My boxes take up more of my living space than me.

When I want to swing the cat I have to go out in the garden. :D

I still have the boxes and everything but the thought of trying to get all the pads and everything back where they belong is really hard work.
