Race Driver: Grid

As long as you can stay out of trouble at the first few corners then around the 1:20 mark i would have thought would get u into the top 5.

I managed 2nd last night on a 2 lap race, mainly owing to a **** driving the wrong way and taking out the original 2nd place man on the penultimate corner, so would have got 3rd anyway.

As the PC owners are unable to enter the "win a BMW competition" I was hoping to maybe run a little competition on these forums for the OCUK users. Does anyone know who I would need to speak to in order to try and get permission for this? :)

The prizes won't be quite as good as a brand new BMW, but I'd be able to offer some GRID T-Shirts and copies of the game.

Ive just got a xbox wireless pad for this game and having some trouble with it.

i installed it via the instructions:

install software
add batteries
connect reciever to pc
turn on xbox pad

now how do i get it to work ingame?

As along as you push one of the pads buttons on the title screen when it says press enter the game should auto map the pad & have the xbox button icons show up in the menus.
If you press enter on the title screen then the menus will show keyboard icons with the pad still functioning in game like it should.

Other wise your xbox pad as not been synced with you receiver.

I could press A when the game starts when it prompts you to press enter but it wouldnt auto map the pad i had to do it manually and set the keys to my pad.

Had a quick go on this last night. Seems very good.

My Logitech wireless rumblepad seemed very over sensitive though, and the game did not find it automatically. I had to go through to the custom config to set it up. Do I need to have the profiler running for this game to find the pad? Only enter would work on the title screen. Nothing on the pad worked. Most games don`t need the profiler running.

Mind you, as much as i loved DiRT, it was also very tempremental when controls were concerned, especially with my Formula Force wheel. Sorted it in the end though.

I may try the wheel tonight with Grid and see how i get on. Looks like it could be more of a pad game though imo.

I am sure I will get this on release. It will compliment DiRT and Toca 3 nicely.

I have tried the game with a g25 wheel and a 360 gamepad and i think you are right.
To me its a game that works better with a gamepad.
I had a lot of games online with the pad and could win a few races.
Then tried with the wheel and found i struggled to keep up as its much faster to control the car with the pad.

This was the same for me in DiRT, at first. Then i discovered the linearity setting for the wheel, and the difference was chalk and cheese. In the end though, convenience meant that I played more with the pad.

IMO Toca 3 gets the steering perfect when it comes to a wheel, and I only play it that way. I think Toca is something that needs to be played in a decent stint due to the race lengths, so its worth setting the wheel up on the desk etc. and getting comfortable.

I tend to play DiRT in short burts when the mood takes me, with the pad. I may be wrong, but I suspect Grid will be similar.

Check with the mods but I don't see why you would need permission from them.

Sounds good though, I'm up for trying to win a copy of the game!

cool, do it !!! :)

Glad you think it's a good idea :)

Have sent an a message to the mods to ask for permission, so hopefully fingers crossed I should be able to get a competition up soon!

I think it's best to ask for permission as I don't want them to think I'm using this forum to advertise our own games for free.

Was about to say Codies aren't on steam but just noticed that Jericho and Overlord are, so maybe. They haven't put their back catelogue on their but may put the new releases up...

New Multiplayer Details

http://www.strategyinformer.com/news/1035/codemasters-reveals-race-driver-grid-multiplayer-details

Codemasters said:
Codemasters today announced that the Race Driver: GRID multiplayer content will feature 32 online race events on 80 circuits at 15 intercontinental locations.

Featuring up to 12-player events with incredible full car damage, Race Driver: GRID's online multiplayer races will see gamers competing in aggressive races on iconic city streets and famous championship circuits across Europe, the U.S. and Japan.

"Race Driver: GRID online is the ultimate expression of what the game is all about – incident-packed, aggressive, wheel-to-wheel racing," said Ralph Fulton, Chief Game Designer, Race Driver: GRID. "Our wide range of motorsport disciplines, stunning locations and full damage 12-player races make for a uniquely spectacular race experience and our immersive new ranking system rewards player skill and deepens the challenge online."

Players will be able to take their custom livery online and make it feared and respected by competing in a huge range of racing disciplines; from drifting around Yokohama Docks, charging through the mean streets of Detroit, racing touring cars around Spa-Francorchamps to competing in chaotic demolition derbies.

The pure race experience is at the heart of Race Driver GRID's gameplay and, in online multiplayer, everything is geared towards maximising player time spent on track and minimising time spent in lobbies. Players can rapidly find the event they want and a slick voting system, matchmaking mechanism and seamless host migration means gamers find competitive races quickly and sessions stay together longer.

An innovative new online ranking system charts players' progress as they advance from Junior Rookie to Legend, with experience points being awarded based on a wide range of achievements, from events won to beating higher ranked opponents.

As players rise through the rankings, online leaderboards record the fastest laps for each track and gamers can download ghost cars to test out their skill against the best in the world in Test Drive mode or check out the competition in Spectator mode. Players can also fully customise their game including switching damage on or off, enabling catch-up mode, setting driver aids and allowing public and private games.

Race Driver: GRID is coming May 30th for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Games For Windows.

Ranking system! Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

ive been playing this demo a lot since it came out, had some really awesome racing on multiplayer where been swapping places throughout the race, and both of us not deciding to swipe each over out! never played an online racing game before really, but enjoying this one a lot!!! won a few races aswell, apart from the prats which decide to just do donuts for the whole race and you have to avoid them.....

#quick question, any idea how much bandwith this game uses? on plusnet and so can use unlimited after 12 at night, but if i want to play during the day how would it hit the usage? guessing it sends a fair amount of data with the full damage etc.....

and also how can i view my lap times? i think im in the mid 1.15-16's but not entirely sure

Fancy yer chances then Lyon? ;)

More than anything I'm excited at the prospect of playing against people without ASBO's. I can hardly contain my excitement, I am loving the demo and it seems everything I have been praying for in the final release is actually happening. WHoooooo!

PS. To answer your question, yes :p
