Race Driver: Grid

I don't particularly like it either - I prefer the realism of my sims (lfs, race07 etc), the handling in this game just doesn't do it for me.

Did you try it with all of the aids off?

I'm not sure you can compare it with games like that anyway. It's supposed to be a more arcadey style I think.

The handling on the Xbox demo seemed a little odd... The handling on the PC using my G25 is pretty pathetic, maybe ive been spoilt by GTR2.

whereas i find the G25 totally responsive and adds to the whole driving experience in GRID, heck even with the wireless xbox360 controller it feels fine

The handling does feel odd, very easy, allthough I never took much attention of the handling stuff so proberbly had traction control or something on.

If you guys think the handling is so easy, then lets see some lap times!

It's very easy to dive into corners without any preparation and just skid around and an almost 90 degree angle, but you wont be seeing many podium places by doing that.

I think most people on this forum are anti-fun aka Simulation lovers.

Great game for a quick blast around the track with a few mates, will be definately getting it for PC, and stuck it on rental list for 360 (for Live)

Lol lap times dont say if the handling is easy or not, if you play the game and find it easy its easy, the handling was easy when I played it, could bomb around corners easilly and it did not take much effort to make sure you were not skidding all over the place.

This game really benefits from being played LOUD, really adds to the game:D I get immersed into it a lot more, just have to remember to turn teamspeak down before starting the game:D

My God this can be annoying.

1) Got on to final straight, bam a car suddenly slams on his breaks.

2) You so much as nick the gravel and you go spinning all over the place.

I just cannot seem to get to grips with it. Does anyone have any tips?

I break on the straights, never in the corners. I seem to get my speed wrong going round the corner though - sometimes I can be far too slow.

I'm using a keyboard by the way (A/Z as accelerate/break).

Proberbly a keyboard making it harder :P, I had the same problem, I was on that race track in the BMW and was first, then I accidently just touched the gravel went flying, ended up in 9th place :(.

I am finding that you dont need to brake nearly as hard as u think u need to going into some of the tight turns, and when going round them keep tapping accelerate to stop yourself from going wide.

Other than that just dont steer whilst wheel spinning as u will spin, is very annoying if u go wide on a corner and try and pull away but find yourself continually spinning and losing places.

At first I was finding the handling so hard due to the fact it was so easy and it took some time to get used to, really you need to use pedals or analogue sticks to accelerate, its just not good using buttons to accelerate as you get full power all the time and that causes you to spin around corners.

*Sorry Vista fans, dx10 is too slow and useless, I get annoyed with Vista asking for permission for everything and half the programs I have don't work anymore.

We'll miss you carrot:(

Anyway, STILL can't get on with the drifting, best i've had so far is 350k points:eek::mad: Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

What kind of frame rates are you lot getting?

I get around 50fps avg @1360x768 with whatever the default settings are. 4xFSAA as well i think.

I haven't measured mine, but it feels as smooth as 60fps. Full settings 1680x1050, 4xAA on a E6300 @ 3Ghz, 8800GTS 512 on XP. Update drivers?

As for the handling debate, it is far easier than a sim but that doesn't make you instantly good. I love sims too, but getting good lap times takes practice on GRID as well.

Sometimes taking the corners like you would have to in other games will do you no favours. If you're used to sims, brake a little bit later and don't be afraid of a little bit of drift. Just make sure you get your line right, if you stick as close to the inside as possible you reduce the risk of being taken out by an idiot quite a bit as well.

Also, off the starting line don't fully rev. Rev to about 90% and floor it as soon as you're moving. Hopefully you are all doing this anyway, but so far I've only seen less than ten people do it and I've done about 200 miles. You can take a good 4 or 5 places before you even reach the first corner. Just get used to having to weave in and out of cars, and don't clip anyone!

Yeah, got the latest drivers. Can you run fraps on it later for me?

I tried reducing the FSAA last night and it made no difference. Bit odd. Gonna play with it a little more later. It's smooth enough i just checked it to see if I could increase the eye candy at all.

with keyboard its full throttle or non. and its too much throttle that makes you spin.

Just gave it a go. I lied :p

It was anywhere from lowish 40's when there were a grid full of cars and smoke ahead of me to 60fps with nothing but road ahead. Strange that I couldn't tell before, I'm usually quite in tune with FPS.

I'll try it with a lower resolution later to see if it makes much of a difference.

Manual gears helps immensely in the corners, well it does for me.

Just akward when you spin and have to reverse as it removes it from the brakign trigger, and you have to manually go to reverse then acellerate.

I'm using the xbox controller and i was couldn't get over 350k either. A few attempts later i stopped using the handbrake and got a 1 million score =)
