Race Driver: Grid

Bought the game today and have been playing for the last hour. Wow, wow and wow, i reckon this game is awesome. Absolutely loving it so far.

Anyone fancy starting a server for a few games tonight? Preferably before the footy at 10:30 ;) My router isn't setup properly to host games so need someone else to do it!

Thanks for hosting pcplod :) BTW I was MIKEYMC. Sorry for the couple of nudges vertigo. I just blame you for being too slow round the corners. Well you were on that chicane. TBH until people are used to the tracks and and cars they will keep nudging each other. I tend to keep an eye on the map for corners coming up and where the other cars are. Its all about spacial awareness. I got side swiped by a couple of guys and if they had been using map, mirrors or rear view they would have known I was there. Bit crap when people do that cos your a better driving simply over taking.

A friend suggested trying to get a proper online community going for this game, with teams and leagues etc. Well sorry but, if the game isn't going to "black flag" people who drive like they're in a pinball machine then any serious online leagues aren't going to work without loads of admins/refs/umpires judging each race. Shame really, ain't played any online racing games seriously since the days of Motorhead.
With the singleplayer the way it is I think the online behaviour is just a a reflection or perhaps a product of it. Bursts of intense racing where you're to overtake an entire field in 2-3 laps encourage the player to throw the car around. The flitting of disciplines and tracks make it unlikely people take the time to learn either tracks or cars. With the forgiving rewind function they've no real incentive to. Weren't expecting that corner? Just rewind and take it again.
As much as i fancy going online I think it's better for my blood pressure and sanity to wait a month.

Hehe :)

TBH, I didn't have a problem with a bit of jostling in the corners, that's normal, it was just when I slowed down for corners and there was a huge bang as the muppet behind me dediced he didn't need brakes. When you then end up in the wall watching the guy who just rammed you disappear off up the track, it kind of takes the fun out of the game.

That said, the single player isn't much better as the AI is crap. You can get properly up the inside of other cars and they'll just turn in on you like you're not there. It's all but impossible to drive cleanly and you have to give as good as you get to make any progress, which is a shame as I think it's promoting the wrong type of driving. Yes, it's "arcadey", but that doesn't mean it has to be automotive pinball.

Not raced online, but playing devils advocate... i very very rarely use brakes in SP, they just arent needed for 95% of the corners, most corners are taken at full throttle and drop the gears, bounce off the limiter and your laughing.

I can foresee problems when i race online with you guys if you brake for the corners.

Give it a bash, hairpins are pretty much the only time i touch the brakes in fairness, but, im fairly sure youll be suprised how well it works.

I'm liking this game more and more but that green stuff at the sides of the track it is grass right? because it feels like ice.

Love playing online most but it gets a bit frustrating with all the rammers :(

Great game I'm rating it above GT5P and Forza 2 :)

just posted this over at the cm forums thought i'd share here it here too, reckon i've figured out how to edit the camera views,

here's how to change the camera values, back everything you change first!

grab the default_cameras.xml in the cars dir and copy that to the car you want to edit cameras. back up the cars cameras.xml (the encoded? one) into i use a "bak" dir then rename default_cameras.xml to cameras.xml and edit away.

i tried the above method with the boss car and played with fov settings and it worked fine, until i viewed the replay and started switching cameras then the game semi locked up, went into 1 frame per minute on a grey image, weird.

so it's possible but be careful, let the editing commence woohoo.

What annoys me is that it lets you use a 360 pad so well but it doesnt let you use the 360 mic for voice comms. Is it really that hard to do on pc when the 360 is essentially a pc. Also whay can't we play against the console peeps they should all ahve the exact same game.

GRID - Thew only game where having rubbish ping is an advantage!

Just won 2 races while my internet had a funny 5 mins. Basically you can drive round fine, no noticable lag, setting sector and lap times, yet everyone elses car looks to be flying all over your screen. They all go red so you cant hit them, meanign you miss all the crashes and pile ups, and fly on thorugh to victory! :)

Didnt work int he 3rd race though, somehow ened up 3 mins down on the leaders after 2 laps??!? obviously had switched from not registering the other cars on my pc properly, to not registering me on the server atall, it was as is my times werent counting.

And ive got a strange issue with my shaddows being drawn with jaggy diaconal lines, like theres loats of copies of them ontop of each other..... hmm

Hmm it seems the best method for drifting is to rapidly squeeze the throttle trigger back and forth thus keeping a constant momentum and only slightly countering the steering as you slide through. I managed to get a few "incredible" bonuses using this but damn it's hard work!

Now ive only played the career mode of this for about an hour or two.
The game has got pretty good entertaining races with AI usually keeping on your tail or sometimes spinning out and you need to be alert as to avoid them.

I found the F3 style race an excellent benchamrk for the game comparing to PGR or titles like FM2. Not only does the games track look excellent but im really chuffed but how entertaining and in general how much fun the racing is. Dare i say just by this early bit of playing and comparing this track in many ways RD is better than PGR or FM2.

*Awaits the G25 patch to properly fix the wheel issues.

Great Great Game !
