Race Pro

typical reply's i'm seeing about this game

am sorry to report that this game is pretty damned poor, i love racing games every since geoff crammonds original F1 game on the pc many yrs ago, i ran it on a 486dx, since then i have played pretty much every racer on every platform and am currently sitting in the top 100 online ranked on pgr4, anyways i love racing games but this one is at the bottom of the pile imo i dont really care about the bad graphics im more interested in the gameplay but what does bother me is framerate issues which this has as well as tearing when conering all i can say is WTF. i dont know know what the hell simbin are thinking of there are litterally loads of online ach's to get but with the game being so bad its going to be a real ball ache getting any of em. this game feels like its been made by a small unit working out of there bedroom which of course it is not. i played for 4 hrs and just thought DAMN its just not good. and if this is a simulator then im a monkeys uncle pgr4 feels more realstic handling than this and its arcade and forza is way way superior on every lvl. I tried on all difficulties with many different cars with the exception of the SR4 and the F3000 they just seem to float around the track there is no sense of mechanical grip biting or releasing. i do like the selection of cars and the tracks are a good choice but at the moment thats it i will play this again to see if it improves overall i am just very dissapointed. maybe i was expecting to much and i am being over critical but i dont think so.

game may be ok, but will wait further,

The visual issues (ie how pretty it is) have never bothered me, but the framerate issues do. A racing game needs solid fps, slow downs and jerk-o-vision are just not acceptable. I wonder if they'll release a demo for this, I'm betting not although I hope they do.

From what I have read Simbin have just showed themselves to have not Learnt a Single thing since GTR.
Be warned people they are the Worst gaming company I know for lack of support & ignoring there customers gripes/complaints/suggested bug fixes. On top of that if anybody works out a fix for anything they will ignore that as well.
Lets hope word spreads how bad this is quickly so the money is kept in the customers pockets rather than going to Simbin, The only way this company will learn & listen to there customers is for them to be Blanked.

I have to admit being dissapointed by the downloadable videos on XBox Live, the game looks like a PC racing game from 10 years ago from some angles, visually it doesn't look anywhere near as nice or smooth as Forza 2. I appreciate it is a 'sim' but to be honest what I saw was enough for me to leave it for now and guage the reaction for a while yet.

The game looks good, I played it for about 30mins the other night, and I just couldnt get into it. Seemed really slow compared to the likes of Forza etc.

But im not writing it off, ill defo give it another bash.

My copy arrived this morning,

Played a few quick races & did one event in career mode.

my initial impressions are good, good solid frame rate, but the game could/should look visually better than this.

It's deffo not a pick up and play game, the cars will require a considerable amount of time to be setup to driver tastes.

Will give it a proper go tonight.

This is why it will be awesome. I'm all for tweaking with upgrades a la GT and Forza, but what I missed was the ability to just have a stock car and then tweak a setup, shaving seconds of your time round a track till you've got it as best as you can and then racing other people that have spent the same online. Just a shame that you can't have 20 odd cars like on the PC versions, means that it is somewhat limited, although it is better than Forza!

Had a quick blast earlier today, initial impressions are mixed. Visually it is pretty poor overall and looks no better than the early version I saw running last year. That said, the cars look solid enough, and some tracks do look pretty decent (Laguna Seca for example). Framerate isn't great though, it shold be a lot better considering the visuals, but at least it is consistant. As for the physics, I've only had a quick blast in the Caterhams but they do feel good, I had an extremely realistic feeling tank-slapper earlier.

I'll comment more when I've had the chance to play it some more, but TBH I think the framerate really lets the game down.

my copy arrived today, just installing it then i'll have a quick blast.

the challenger pre-order code i got is a 150mb download, so we wont be able to share the codes...

EDIT: just had a quick race round brands in a mini, on pro, in car view. i like :)

Seems to be pretty good so far, 1 or 2 framerate issues, but overall, it does do what it says on the tin, by today's "standards" its not great looking, but it looks good enough to accentuate the feel of the game, but time will tell if it'll be a "stayer" for online fun, can see some idiots losing it on corner #1 and causing pileups on most pug races :(

i've had a bit of a play through the career now, completed the mini/caterhams/radicals on to group C next. playing on pro/in car view i've won every race so far, hopefully the AI gets harder in the races further into the career.

online seems good, only had a couple of races with some friends so far

Radicals are....fun?

Hard to know you NEED to be throttling through the corners to maintain any downfroce, but finding the right speed and throttle combo is hard to keep the rear end planted! :D

Is it me or is it far too easy, even on pro?(every race beaten first time)

AND, whens the patch out to sort the online connection problems?????

Great game but just needs alittle tweaking.

Got my copy yesterday and I'd like to add my thoughts so far.

Graphics wise it's not the sharpest tool in the box but it's more than adequate and using the bumper cam (my favourite view) I experienced no pop-up or tearing.

It works very well with the Microsoft wheel on the default settings though I will experiment with the ffb stength as for me it feels a bit week.

Had a quick blast around Macau in a DB9 and it's very narrow through the twisties (only passing places look like the main straights). Using the in-car view there's a great feeling of weight transfer under acceleration/braking as the driver moves backwards and forwards.

Next I tried a mini around Brands. This is a circuit I know quite well, having raced there, and imo the way it's been replicated in this sim is the best yet. The way the track drops away exiting paddock, through pilgrims and the camber around druids all feels so just right.
I also found the mini a real hoot to drive, spitting flames out of the exhaust and changing down through the gears sounds spot on. The exhaust does sound different depending on which car view you use and overall the audio side has been done very well, especially when played through a decent sound system.
So far I've only used default car setups which for the aston & mini seemed to work quite well, you can easily win at pro level using the wheel. This surprised me as I've found with previous Simbin offerings the cars understeer a lot using default settings.

Imo Simbin/Atari are onto a real winner with this sim and it will keep any race-sim enthusiast more than happy until the release of fm3 and gt5.

Highly recommended.

I'm finding the to be like Ferrari Challenge on the PS3. The core of the game is very good, you just wish they had spent an extra 50p on graphics and presentation.

Also, it's not quite as simmy as I'd hoped for. Just feels like a 'lite' version of a PC racer, which I guess shouldn't come as a surprise seeing as it's on a console.

been playing this all afternoon with my son and really enjoying it. got my cobbled together raceframe set up in front of the tv and its awesome. yes it has a few glitches and apparently a few live issues but at the mo its really enjoyable.

wish my momo would work with the 360, bought a drivefx and while its ok its deffo more of a console wheel... 360 needs G25 support imho!!

got race07 on pc for more technical racing but for a quick fix online (a few mates getting this today also) or taking turns with my son then this is more than adequate
