Hey,

I've just got myself a Logitech G29 and looking to test it out in a racing title, not too clued up on this genre so I'm looking for some help. :D

Project cars and assetto corsa are the two best driving games out there for road and track, and dirt rally is the best for rally. All three are sims so if you just want something a bit fun without too much challenge then Dirt 3 is a good one. Personally I much prefer the three I mentioned.

yep just get one of the 3 mentioned, project cars, assetto corsa or dirt rally,i have project cars and dirt rally and both are REALLY great games, not tried assetto corsa yet but it gets high praise and its defo on my to buy list :)

If I'm not trying to do anything too serious I do like a bit of Test Drive Unlimited 2 with the wheel. As a racing game its a bit lol but loads of cars that are fairly well modelled visually, handling and sound wise and some good roads/scenery with random races and stuff dotted about.

RaceRoomRacing Experience, FREE to play with limited Tracks/Cars, has by far the best FFB/Wheel experience out there straight out of the box* with no tweaks, messing about with settings, searching the interwebz for set-ups, getting thoroughly frustrated etc.. Try doing that in any other Racing game!

*It did, but they released a Patch yesterday where this may have changed as they have done some big changes to it, not had a chance to check it yet.

Thanks fellas, bought Assetto Corsa with the dream packs.

I'll most likely try out the other titles mentioned at a later date.

Assetto corsa is great. I like project cars a bit more just because it has a nicer UI and feels more like a full game, although AC actually has a nicer driving feel so for your wheel you made the right choice I think. I remember how much of a difference it made getting a wheel. Couldn't go back!

Hope you enjoy it mate

Automobilista, absolutely fantastic title - Excellent force feedback and the best AI for single player. Driving a Brabham BT44 around the original Österreichring or Kyalami, holy moly!

I am having great fun racing the slower formulas (Mini Cooper and Formula Vee) I love how the AI make mistakes and unexpectedly spin off/crash - it adds so much to the immersion for a single player game.

I agree with other posters, avoid arcade racing games and jump right in, persevere with sims, it will frustrate but in the long run, very rewarding.

Bit of an update, bought ProjectCARS :D

So that's AC and PCARS that I'm testing currently, had the courage to go pro mode without all the assists minus the racing line while I'm learning how to drive around Monza in a BMW Z4 GT3. Lost count of the times I've lost control of the Z4 in AC, feels more realistic than PCARS for sure. Also PCARS has more of a game feel to it when compared to AC.

Is there a better track/car combination that I can test my novice skills on? :p

i have heard you guys race properly and are pretty strict which is a cool thing (having a fair race)

but ive heard its like a bit of a money pit even after the subscription!
It can get a bit expensive when you first start as you have to buy tracks and a car for the first season. Once you're a couple of season in you're pretty much just paying for the subscription.

I wouldn't suggest iRacing to start with though as it's a real simulator and very unforgiving of mistakes. Try Assetto Corsa or Project Cars if you just want something that's pick up and play.

*edit*
Ah, I just saw your last post

Monza is good for starting out as there's only a couple of tricky corners to master. Spa is a great track to learn as it will teach you how the car works in all different types of corner. The Nordschleife does this too, but that's just for the sadists :D
