She's not been found guilty of racism, it's not a crime. She has plead guilty to causing harassment and alarm.

I don't like it either, but they're using their freedom of speech - ironically something radical Islam would get rid of.

People have the right to protest in the UK, and it's a good thing, but to have that right to protest we also have to suffer the morons.

The difference here is that the police should be preventing them harassing people, while allowing them to protest. As far as I know that's what the police achieve.

The majority of people committing an offence under Section 5 of the Public Order act receive a fixed penalty notice yet this woman is facing a custodial sentence.

John Terry who has been charged with a racially aggravated offence wasn't even remanded yet she was.

That won't stop the actual racists getting all up in arms about their assumed right to free speech.

The fact is that what she said is immaterial, it was the way in which she said it and her actions that have gotten her into trouble, and not for the first time either, so she can't really be that surprised. I think that jail is probably a bit harsh though, even if she was fined for a similar offence before....give her some community service working with the type of people she so vilifies, it may give her something to think about.

No you are not. You looked at the headline, skimmed it and voided some ill formed thoughts onto the thread. Turns out she's not being sent to jail to cure her racism, she might be sent to jail to cure her anti-social behaviour.

I actually find your constant use of the poppy in your signature distasteful with the amount of racial hatred you preach above it. You are using the poppy symbol as a political tool just as the BNP did. Disgusting and shameful.

Everyone does actually realise that the woman has not actually been sentenced to anything yet, let alone Jail.....the case was adjourned for pre sentence reports because of the level and persistence of the abuse given toward people on the train including children. Personally I don't care what who you are or how upset you are at the world, it is simply not acceptable to hurl abuse at people just because you feel like it regardless of their ethnicity, what this woman was doing was not exercising her freedom of speech, it was a drunken, aggressive verbal assault on a group of innocent people travelling on a train and she deserves to be punished for that, not defended.

I think it's not us liberals, it's the socialist and reactionary authoritarians who want to control and stifle everything who will be the death of the country. Freedom and liberty are what forged Great Britain, not ignorance and control.
