Radeon 2900pro v 1950pro

So whats it to be then 2 2900 pro`s or 8800Ultra / GTX or what about one of these -OcUK ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT SILENT Heatpipe 1024MB GDDR4 ??

What do you look for best core speed? What is the criteria to look for in a good card(s) for me. It/they will be primarily for gaming.

get the 8800gtx, you get a card that consumes less power, puts out less heat, makes less noise than a 2900.
you can;t loose. and with nvidias driver supported kicking out drivers every week now im sure you will want to play games, the way they are ment to be played.

M8 If you can afford the GTX go for it, it a better card and wont use as much power and make as much heat, sorry you never got a answer before I never seen topic.

Best cards = GTX/Ultra and best to get these if you can spend in the region of £300.

If you could only afford £250 then the X2900XT is the best option. I can't comment on the x2900 pro's yet as I'm a little bit wary that these cards are XT speed failures (Can't reach XT speeds). If the 2900 pro's do reach XT speeds then for people who can't afford the £300 for the GTX, will be paying nearly half the price for a GTX but get much more back in performance.

Why do you really care if they are speed failures? Your getting a fantastic card for £150-£170.

Matthew

Who wouldn't want an XT performance for £170?:confused::confused:. If this is to be the case then it's a fantastic deal, don't you agree?.

I think nearly everyone is hoping for the same. If it is just hanging a little bit behind it then again, a great deal!.

If you can only afford 250 quid, best option is to save up more, I would never recommend this 2900XT ever again, the 8800GTS 640 I would also recommend over it since it performs better accross the board, and there is still an AA problem with this card even though some people were claiming there is not one anymore.

Of course, the 8800GTX is even better value than a GTS 640 now GTX prices have fallen and GTS prices havent, if you want a 2900Pro, a second hand GTS 640 would actually be the best bet.

I was playing TF2 last night, 8xAA and 16xAF at 1680x1050, was smooth, lowest was around 30fps, but then with 16xAA, lowest was around 15fps, too much fps hit there.

You do realise that the 2900XT is absolutely trashing the 8800GTX there? You'd have to take off 15fps for the 4xAA just to be even with it. And there's £60 in the difference!

Lol.. I know which is better value ;)

i think you should make it toally clear that the ati cards are using 0xAA as they do not support AA in bioshock, as someone just glancing at the graph might get the wrong impression

im not totally sure the graph is right as reading the conclusion

"BioShock is the one title that AMD really needs to work on. As we noted in our BioShock performance articles, DX10 performance is significantly slower than DX9, and the game doesn’t scale at the moment with CrossFire. The Radeon HD cards also lack support for AA in BioShock."

i think that the graqph just shows dx 9 performance on the ati cards at least possibly the nvidia ones as well

Errm, in DX9 the ATi cards can actually do AA in Bioshock.

That test was done in DX9 since DX10 AA dont work even with NV cards.

Ok if cost is`nt a problem what is the `ultimate` card. For example is the cost of the `black pearl` justified?

Well, the black pearl is designed for watercooling, probs would be cheaper to get a normal 8800GTX or Ultra and buy water cooling for it seperatly.

Since all GTX's overclock high and all Ultras overclock high its hard to say which is the ultimate card.

Errm, it does work in DX9 on ATi cards but it is incredibly glitchy and to a point unplayable. And LMAO, you play TF2 with 16XAA = 8X AA + wide tent in CCC and you dont expect a massive performance drop, stick to in game settings. The green side is still strong within this one.;)
