Radeon HD6950 Problem

Hi Guys,

I recently purchased the Battlefield War Rush bundle but decided to go for the default (basic) car in the ATI 5450. That was a mistake and Overclockers were very helpful in allowing me to upgrade the card and simply pay the difference as part of the bundle to the Radeon HD6950 2GB CARD.

This arrived today i followed the instruction to removed 5450 drivers and shut down PC. Removed the 5450 (and an extra rear panel plate) clip in the new card and connect the 2x 6pin power cables running from the PSU.

i then booted the computer and the screen simply doesnt show anything. The fans on the GFX Card work but seem to b powered through the motherboard. Having phoned the support desk and tried a few things he suggested it was a faulty card and i now have to send back recorded delivery before a new 1 gets posted!

I am very frustrated and dont know how common this is with regard to cards being faulty on delivery packaged and sealed?

Has anyone got any other ideas i could try if the card isnt actually faulty?

He confirmed my PSU is more than powerful enough and is delivering power across the system fine. My only idea was my LG Flattron w1943sb-pf monitor but this displays fine when i have the 5450 installed.

Also to note i have reinstalled old card and still working fine, any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers guys

As the monitor only has a D-SUB (VGA) connection I assume you're using a DVI to VGA adapter.

You need to ensure this is plugged into the correct DVI connector on the graphics card as only one of them is DVI-I and thus provides the necessary analog signal.

I would also suggest reseating the card, the big cards can require a bit of reasonable force to get them seated all the way into the mobo.

Hmm ty for the ast replies. I gave it 1 more shot and the card is defo lines up correctly and 'snaps/clicks' into place and the release clamp settles into locked position. The card was an optional upgrade as part of original bundle so im confident the other bits of hardware work well together.

I have tried both vga ports and neither work. However the monitors display does change slightly when nothigs connected compare to when its plugged in. It knows its not connected when unplugged but wen connected to either vga the screen goes black like it does on norm boot up then displays message on monitor saying 'no signal'

It may b a faulty car i guess but dont wanna go theough the hassle of sending back, waiting and reinstallin to find its not broken its something else.

Do you have a large HDTV in the house that you can plug into the HDMI port of the TV, just to rule out your monitor not liking a working card.

Great idea! Hav a 28 inch tv just sitting nex to me will try hdmi connection but its an LG tv lol so might not work. I will try wen i get home from work :) i cant get to bios as screen just stays black from start norm get motherboard screen after that but nothing displayed. Really cba to go through posting back an waiting for replacement as might not b the prob

Also, with some cards the monitor cable has to be plugged in while the machine POSTs or it won't initialise the screen. You'll be sat looking at a black screen while Windows loads in the background, some cards then wake the screen, some won't until reboot

Yeah im using the coverter provided to connect through vga. Tried both port options and no luck. Tried booting with screen attached, screen not attached then connected but neither help still just get a black screen.

Ill try the tv monitor idea and discard the case that it might dislike my monitor although if 5450 card works and it displays ok wud b surprised if that was the issue. Sum1 sed to rly push hard to get card into slot properly it defo clicks into place but do i need to force further? Worried bout breaking card!

Well doesnt display on tv through hdmi neither. The connection to the pci express port nearest the display sockets diesn seem to push as far in as the rest but the case hinders it from going further where the card screws to the case. The case is defo conpatible so im guessing it is a faulty card!
