Hi all
at the moment i have a ATI radeon power color x800 128 meg pci-express card .but im wondering if its now time to upgrade .i do play games but nothing flash .if i were to get say a 256 meg card what differences would i see in everyday use of windows ? i would be willing to spend about £200 on a new card but would it be worth it ? or should i just stick with what i have .

Easy decision, get this card ....

Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO)
Available This Week Only for just £144.95 +VAT.
:) ;) :D

The 256mb x1800xt is an excellent card, mine will run anything I throw at it. If gaming in 1280x1024 or below then its the card to have if using a higher res then the 512mb version is better. Neither card will make any difference in normal windows use, but in games you'll see a huge difference over you x800. I upgraded from a 256mb x850xt that was clocked well past xt pe speeds and even then the difference between that and my x1800 is massive.

Get this card, will absolutely blow your x800pro away, i went to an x1800 XT 512mb from an x800 XT PE, and im still like this  at the performance increase, games ramped to the max goodness, the increase in performance is staggering.

but i wont see a difference in normal windows use .i may as well wait till DX10 cards come out

your better off selling your x800 then and buying a x300 and spending the rest on beer and women

sure i am .its not like im sat here trying to work out how much beer and how many women i can get with £20 ;)

not much I only paid £46 for one new (from here) although you might get lucky on an auction site and get £50ish

X1800XT 256mb is a good card to get although I have seen 7900GTs for about a fiver more, similar performance.

X1800XT............................. 7900GT

AA + HDR together................ Use less power
Bit faster @ stock................. Overclock very well
Tiny bit cheaper................... Generally quieter
OC well............................... SLi motherboards are more common for a later upgrade

I'd recommend the x1800xt.:) The performance difference between your x800 and x1800xt will be huge.

On the other hand, 7900gt is a excellent card aswell and clocks to gtx speeds but i've seen quite a lot of these dying recently, Must be a bad batch :(

Don't think any graphics card will help in normal windows useage. To help with that you might need to look into upgrading other componants in your computer.

EDIT: just seen rest of spec seems upto scratch, so whats wrong with windows at the moment??

opening programs .seems kind of slow opening them up .like it sits and thinks about it for a while

Run a defrag, disable non-used programs in your startup tray, also check how many prcesses you have running when Windows is idle.

Failing that do a reinstall and *** ch it fly ;)

EDIT: whats wrong with the word w a t c h?
