Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

So you could say, it's almost like, an overclockers dream.

Similar sized Pitcairn parts could easily get up to 19.5% overclock from 1ghz without touching power limits or core volts. 20% overclock is when you needed to change power limits and a little core V bump. So these parts should easily manage 20-30% overclock on finfets from 1.2ghz stock.

no one knows as of yet they referenced the whole $300 price at computex so unless the 8 gig 480 is $300 there has to be something.

I can't see 4GB vs 8GB cost an extra ~£100.
Or just having a single card from one SKU.

I think Tweak Town let slip there...

If RX 480 benchmarks hit before Jun 29 the NDA is protecting a 490, the $300 card

Ha, I can't tell if serious. Yeah it read as really sarcastic. Like your saying big deal, 'GTX 970' performance but less power.

Anyways, no one knows how this performs yet, we need legit benchmarks / reviews.

I hope it's a good one at a good price, god knows the market needs it after Nvidia decided to take milking the consumer to a whole new level.

Not at all and was a statement of fact. I will be getting one for reviews and from what we can work out, it will be faster than a 970 and possibly even a 980, use less electric and as pointed out by me here and in the past, that power usage equates to less heat, so a sweet card for ITX cases etc and a lot of performance to boot. The discussion had turned around to the TDP again and my comment was part of that but didn't overly elaborate. I have just finished work as well, so no chance of gaming before. Still no joy with the 6850K and waiting for OcUK to reply to my tech question :(

I think the heat is getting to some today and taking anything said completely out of context to have an argument :(

As for the NVidia milking, that discussion is for other threads :)

$100 but yeah would be £100 with all the not so accurate exchange rates that get used.

thats why id say there should be another card at $300 but for now no one knows and if they do they wont say. hopefully tomorrow amd will say and show something worthwhile and not more aots rubbish.

Are you sure it would be a 490? and not a rx 480x (or however they want to call it)?

I reckon It would be strange of AMD to span two numbers of gpu with the same chip (and also would be tiny compared to other 90's).
Unless AMD managed to fully cloak another gpu from everyone.

At GTX 970 performance no one will buy it as the 390 is faster than that.
At GTX 980 performance yes but its not going to be very popular.

It needs to be 390X performance at least.

Speak for yourself it's 10c here!

Ouch. But then again, I wouldn't mind that when I am on an all day session gaming :D

Faster than a 970 and under $200, people will buy it.

The 390x and 980 are almost exactly the same. Anyway that would be really good I it overclocked a further 10-20% it would get to near FuryX performance.

If it's only around 970/390 performance then it's underwhelming. But since it's 5.83 Teraflops we can safely say it's should be aound 390X performance and possibly a bit faster die to architectural improvements. The 390 is 5.1 teraflops for reference.

With overclocking I expect it to be at least Fury Pro performance and possibly touching Fury Nano.

Ahem. Furo Pro is faster than Nano. Sorry as a Pro owner this must be announced :p

My mistake. I always thought the Fury nano was faster because it was a full fiji core. That means with overclocking the 480 should almost definitely get to Fury nano level.

Depends on if it is already at fury nano performance from what early leaks show.

Hopefully they are just restricting the clocks so the Fury's look good still. But that it has good overclocking potential. After all faster than nano speeds nobody would look at the £500 FuryX ever again

Well, Fury's are EOL, you not noticed? :)
