Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

Its gone from below 980 performance to catching a 980Ti in the space of a week.

Going to be interesting to see where it does actually fall. :D

Even some of the oldest leaks had it at 980-nano performance. With time to improve bios and drivers over the past month and a half it has edged ever closer to being on par with the nano. And this is at base clocks of 1080 if wccftech is right, meaning it will exceed the nano and maybe fury in actual games.

Oh look, were at the fury x / 980ti performance levels already with only 2 weeks to go.

I predict gtx 1080 levels in another week.

Don't get to over hyped as when it does actually release it wont be too much of a dissapointment.

It's a rollercoaster ride for sure. Yesterday's steam VR leak was a downer putting it below a 970 but most other 3dmark leaks have it above a 390X/980.

If it is faster than a 980 then it's a day one purchase for me since I've sold my 290X already.:p

as you've shown it can't be slower than 470 which looks to fall in around 290 speeds.......which people had the 480 at yesterday LOL

RX480 2304 stream processor, RX470 2048 stream processor, difference of 256 stream processors, im guessing 36CU vs 32CU ?
that is practically the same GPU, i fear that the RX480 would already be overclocked to its limit and less efficient than the RX270.
the RX270 might just be better perf/$ than the RX 480, and better overclocker, and performance between the 2 could be lower than 20%, if priced at 149$, they should'v just promoted it instead of the 480 :D
i dont get why they made them so close to each other
I am guessing the 470 does not cross the 'VR ready' line, so doesn't fully meet the kind of marketing direction they wanted to go with.

And neither are their prices!
Ya know, I see people complain about this a lot, but apart from their 8 and 10 core enthusiast CPU line, I'm not really seeing what people are so upset about. A CPU purchase can easily last somebody a good 5 years and you can get basically the best gaming CPU available for about $330.

I'd say it's one of the best value investments people can put into their PC build.

The WCCF leak shows consistency with the chinese kid who has some youtube videos showing the Firestrike benchmark. Call it hype but I dare say with a 1400MHz overclock it could reach FuryX territory .

So I wake up this morning and the card is again as fast as a 980Ti.

And people are calling wccftech a 'reliable' source.

One hell of a night.

Wccftech sprouts so much **** that they can be both unreliable and reliable at the same time, they're always bound to get some details right. Guessing as this is a leak and not speculation, then it's probably quite reliable providing that the source is legit.

now where are some sodding game benchmarks, as all these non gaming ones mean very little to me. always find them a tad dubious as to what a card can really do.

Of course. But why is this? Because they'll print every single rumor any Jim or Harry says on the internet. THAT is the level of trustworthiness of their sources.

Oh we already reached that days ago, ofc it swiftly swung back down to Fury/980 due to a totally legit report from a Lithuanian fanzine. :D

I REALLY doubt there's enough people who can buy newer hardware there for the fanzine to be worth the time. This all sounded better in my head :D And why does it have to be Lithuania >.<

Seanspeed -> but hey, Jim might get it right, no?

Still on track for the 29th of June sadly. The wait is making people go bonkers it seems. :p

i mean if these sites can leak fire strike results from oc'd cards, wouldnt it be easy enough to run a quick game benchmark or something. this is why i hate this time just before cards get released so much questionable info floating about.

wccftech also posted a thread about what videocardz posted - I personally would wait for official numbers before professing one over the other.

There will plenty of people here on this very site that will ultimately predict the performance correctly through sheer estimation, not being within a hundred miles of the actual card to test it.

Problem with the internet is that anybody can say anything. And it doesn't take but minutes to mock up some benchmark results and label it legitimate.
