Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

i mean if these sites can leak fire strike results from oc'd cards, wouldnt it be easy enough to run a quick game benchmark or something. this is why i hate this time just before cards get released so much questionable info floating about.

From the WCCF article:

Although very excitingly, according to what we’ve learned, AMD’s RX 480 and even the RX 470 put on a better show in actual games vs what we’re seeing in 3DMark. Especially in DirectX 12 games.

This should be expected with the architectural improvements in GCN 4. Polaris should be much closer to its theoretical performance than the older AMD cards. Guru3D has posted the AMD benchmarks for the 470 and Overwatch is getting 121fps max settings @ 1080P. Not sure what max settings are but looks pretty good although I doubt if that means 'EPIC settings'.

that's 290 speeds - as that's around what I get with my 290 at 1080 clocks...

gives more credit that 480 can't be 290 speeds.....has to be faster - around 980 speeds min :)

Yep if those 470 results are anywhere near the truth the 480 has to be a lot better, and as you say, 980 Perf or higher.

I don't see Guru3d faking results - they'd kill their creditability - I think its very smart showing off 470 results and not 480....keeps people guessing the final range where 480 falls.....but min has to be 980 speeds for DX 11.....

Some German prices with 19% VAT included from a system builder:

** competitor of caseking **

The GT730 is around £45 from a few retailers so a rough estimate of the price is:
1.)RX460 ~£100
2.)RX470 ~ £160
3.)RX480 4GB ~ £210
4.)RX480 ~ £240

Well the other thing to worry about is Stock levels, look at Fiji, that was an absolute joke, and now look at the Nvidia cards, other than the pathetic FE cards there is like zero stock.

Hopefully if AMD has got a monster card on their hands, they have enough stock to deliver, right now Nvidia has a 2 week pass to get as many cards into stock as possible, because people are impatient and will buy them, but as soon as that 480 lands and if it lives up to the hype (big IF) they will need stock as it will fly off the shelves.

I am actually concerned stock might be an issue :(

They're not faking or even making any results, those are just the figures AMD provided in their PR slide.

Those results are taken from the AMD slides and come with info about what settings AMD used. AMD seems to be withholding scores for the 480 but judging by the 470 scores, it will be as fast or faster than a 390X.

ooch, if the RX480 clock up and get near Titanx/1070 performance, it is a real little monster of a card for the price and beats down the 1070 and 1080 for price/perf

but would be a better card for high res screens though which the 4gb would struggle on. so horses for courses in that regard.

if the 480 8gig is as fast as the figures suggest its a good thing, now lets hope they have stock so it forces nvidia to tweak their pricing for the 1070 and 1080's.

It depends - I don't disagree more VRAM the merrier(within reason),but for a 1080P screen at £160 if it actually gets close to an R9 290,thats not too bad at all.

Edit!!

Also AMD might have downclocked the card a bit more to fight less with the RX480 4GB.

Why? so you can buy a 1070? What a way to reward AMD for bringing competition.
