Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

if the 480x is still around 390x/980 performance it is a big boost in performance for its segment, the 390x was a part from the next segment up. which amd have not released a replacement yet for this new generation of cards.

So i don't see the bother, while it was all fun to have the hype around the possible overclocking capability, even if it is just 390x/980 performance at $200 etc then it is still a big improvement over the 380x it replaces. As that is what it is, a replacement for the previous X80 card, not a new x90 or fury card.

Before the hype it was a great card for the price. Now the hype of a RUMOUR is dying down its crap?

Well, that's what happens when you fall for hype lol

I tried my best to set people straight with realistic exceptions but over the last few days this place has been insane with believing any kind of dodging rumour despite these fanciful benchmarks contradicting the 2 official figures that AMD have provided and the known specs.

Was is to much to expect AMD to being 1070 or close performance on 16nm, they are just regurgitating last gens performance slightly cheaper, they are going nowhere fast.

Please don't anyone think of hyping Vega, I can tell you now prepare to be disappointed and buy an Nvidia GPU instead.

There is a big difference in price between the 1070 and the RX 480 so i don't even know why you are comparing the two. Then the Nvidia chip is way bigger as well so stop comparing the two. Vega is newer architecture than Polaris so should be able to match what Nvidia has on the market easy enough if the chip is big enough.

And in one fell swoop the Grim Gibbo Reaper killed the AMD Hype Train.. and on that day many RX480 potential sales were laid waste....

Lol Gibbo just probably lost a few decent sales with that revelation :(

I think Giddo could be having us on :D

(just trying to mop up this train wreckage so to salvage parts and rebuild up the hype train... but its such a mess do not know where to start)

What that two 290x in xfire dont match a 980ti at stock? Just how slow do you think a 290x is??????

Lets assume an average xfire scaling of 70% (its up to 100% in some games)

You honestly saying a stock 980ti is 70% faster than a 290x?

Oh, plural. Ugh, still no thank you. Even if the Crossfire profile is working as it should, that's still not a selling point to stay put in my opinion.

Really? I had a 290X and the 980Ti was much faster. Got any proof of this?

Not you as well. You honestly saying two 290x dont match or trade blows with a 980ti?????

The only reason I havent swapped them for a single 980-ti is that it would be pretty much a side ways swap except when xfire didnt work when obviously the 980ti would be up to twice as fast.

I think we have known from the start, that these are a very nice upgrade for people with amd 280 and below gpus, not so good if you own a 970-390 card.

I bought my 7870 from overclockers in 2012 for £280,its been a great card and the 480 will be a massive upgrade.

LOL,this thread has more ups and downs than Eastenders.

Many of us expected R9 390X/GTX980 level performance,so as long as the cards are as close to £200 to £225 for the 8GB version as possible,it should be fine.

Plus,we have another 10 days to launch,so I doubt AMD even has the launch drivers fully out until then too.
