Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

I don't need to i can show you results of a gtx980 being faster than a stock 980ti if you want in our own bench thread. If the stock gap was 40% this would not be possible.

This is the only stock 980ti in the thread.

This is the reason people think a RX 480 overclocked could possibly get close to a 980ti.

So when you overclock a 980 by 40% it is as fast as a 980Ti at stock. Interesting.

It has only gained around 30% on a stock gtx980 in Graphics score. My whole point is it gained around 30% performance and is now faster than a 980ti at stock. It's not the 40% that Kaap is claiming as it only had to gain 30% to be around 5% faster.

My comment was basically common sense, the entire internet and review sites are saying 390-390X and circa 980 levels, so I just had to step in when some people were trying to create false rumours by saying 980Ti / Titan X levels as people obviously do not realise how quick a 980Ti is.

Bravo Gibbo, people do seem to forget how much more powerful the 980Ti is over a 980. I find it hard to believe a $200 card would performance to the level of a 980Ti and if it did perform that well then it wouldn't be $200. Expectation seems too high.

30-40% :)

980 OC vs 980Ti OC and the Ti is a good 30-40% ahead, they are super quick cards.

Both 980 and 980Ti also both overclock extremely well. The custom 980 and 980Ti offered big performance boost over reference 980 and 980Ti, typically 20% faster out the box compared to reference versions.

Lets remember 980Ti reference was 1075MHz boost, yet custom cards were 1200-1400MHz region and pretty much every 980Ti could OC beyond 1400MHz with some even over 1500MHz. The 980Ti in particular gained huge performance from the OC, it is one of the best overclocking cards of all time when nearly an additional 40% performance comes from OC alone. The 980 was also very similar in such ability. :)

thx for confirming the reference RX480 is about stock GTX 980 performance, i guess thats that from today's list of leaks

I've drank a lot of alcohol since then so I honestly cannot remember.

No probs, i can wait n see :)

since AMD said they have DVI connection available on the pcb if the AIBs want to use it, then you most definitely will have some custom with DVI

Thanks, will look out for them and hope Sapphire have one :)

 Not sure what you mean?

Im not sure what u mean by being not sure what i mean  :p

Probably drivers, that score of mine is really old to be honest.

Sorry... what? There's no way you didn't think it was going to be around 390x and were saying that was good for the reference price at the time of the reveal and were this negative. The appeal in this card was always going to be the low price and power, nothing more, nothing less. Unfortunately any sort of low price in US always gets skewed for the UK.

The problem is, relatively speaking there isn't much between 290/x/970/80 at all, or even going to the 980ti/titan x from those cards.

EDIT: When a 'mid range' card is released (i.e 380x equivalent for a generation), who with the top end from the last generation expects it to be way ahead to be a worthy upgrade? Why is this standard being applied here?

What? low price? its the same price as current cards at the same performance.

More of the same for the same money.

If it was £150 that would be 'ok' but its not, its £250 for another re-badged 390 series....

so whats the verdict so far? rx480 gonna compete with the 1060/1060ti?
or is it a sidegrade to a r9 270x?
there is no 1060/ti yet :D , but my guess 1060 would be more 470 competition performance wise while at 480 price tag, knowing Nvidia and their last x60 cards.
RX480 is about 100% faster than 270X
the RX 460 would be a sidegrade to a 270X, for less than 80-100£

Seems the charlie's forums crew finally got the message. Don't post wccf spew and obvious fakes.

Not sure I even believe the story about AMD trying to get them to stop.

All those those rumours are completely shot down by Gibbo :)
He pretty much confirmed its just a low power 390.

He's confirmed nothing. He said a page or 2 ago for people to use common sense which is what he is basing the performance on as he said he's not run the card due to being too busy. He did mention the gtx980 which is as close as he came to hinting at what he thinks the performance will be. Remember Gibbo is saying the gtx980ti is 40% faster than the gtx980 and 390x.
