Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

The 1070 and 1080 show good gains. 1080 is dx12 king at the moment and the 1070 is showing good gains over 980ti in something like hitman and is rivaling the Fury X (like it should as it is a ~980ti performing card).

They certainly don't have a "considerable" advantage against the 1000 series.

Errrr..... Thats because Nvidia have released their latest generation of cards and AMDs are yet to land, AMD still have an advantage. Especially against price.

You're impressed by the 1070 in DX12? When it's being matched by a 390x.... Which if it turns out true, the 480 (A £200 odd card) will match?

What? The 480x isnt going to be a fury x/1070/980ti competitor.

Also price? How much is the Fury X and how much is the 1070 going to be in a week?

Right now, Nvidia have the fastest card in dx12 and will have until vega comes out.

My response was to the other guy saying AMD still have a considerable advantage over the 1000 series in dx12 which isnt true.

You people...

He should have stated in price/performance to be accurate, but I saw what he was getting at. In which case AMD has a big lead under those circumstances - Just saying.

But yes, Nvidia's outright 'speed' allows the maximum performance for the moment.

The 480 will be the go to card for anyone with as much as sense for usage as 1080p is the dominant arena and 1440p then a 480/X/Z/Y or whatever its letter just make sense due to price, true async dx12 ACE engines.

The 1080 atm a 800 euro card cant render snow in a dx12 title correctly.
Imagine that. so I would postulate that the 480 is the better card for dx12 and have an advantage as the 1080 cant render snow correctly atm.

You guys.....

I wouldn't mind seeing how your Fury compares in our AoTS thread that Kaap runs. Could you run it please and post your results :)

gregg can the benchmark be downloaded, i fancy giving it a go on my pc but dont really want to buy the game as its not my sort of thing looking at it

he means usualy AMD cards gain about 20% performance on DX12 with async, so 390X is about 30% slower than 1070 in DX11 games, so in DX12 it would be like 10% behind in performance, knowing 480 should be around the same performance as the 390X, meaning -30% in dx11, -10% in dx12 against 1070 at half it's price, the bench isn't a good selling point for the 1070.
paying twice for that performance isn't good bang for the buck, especialy when dx12/vulkan games should be more and more frequent releases, while dx11 releases shrinks, in the long run the 480 could turn up to be far more better value than 1070 in a year or 2.

Am I the only one who wishes this overly-convoluted benchmark would go away?

Let's get back to good old min/avg FPS.

End of the day this is all I am bothered about anyway!

After reading a few comments here and there, assuming the 480 on release is within +/-5% of the performance AMD are stating I am getting very excited for this card to replace my 7850 as I still and will be gaming at 1080p for another year or so.

Im same as you my 7870 is 4 years old now,and has been a great card, but the rx 480 should be a massive upgrade for me,for less than i paid for the 7870.

Something he missed -

There is nothing to stop AMD doing a dual card based on the RX 480 that uses less than 200 Watts. There is a big clue in the CF comparison to the GTX 1080.

The other thing that is interesting about the RX 480 is it uses quite low clockspeeds for 14nm meaning that we could see a higher performance version with much higher clocks drawing more watts.

well amd twittered today about it being £160 how many think that will happen ? :p

AMD's plan in invading mainstream with polaris isn't new, they were talking about it for a year, they planned long and hard, so they will probably have a solid grip on pricing with massive stock.
just make it a little bit better than a 390 plz, a 10% extra would do just fine :D
