Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

If it's that, then I will likely buy. Shame about the plunging pound taking just a bit of the shine off, but still seems like a good deal if performance is where I expect. My R9 285 will either move to a media PC or go to a family member.

It is a shame yes, but NVIDIA's new products have increased.

The problem now for RX-480 is new GTX 970 and 980 pricing OcUK has with 970 from £209.99 and 980 from £275.99

Erm, how does a difference of $30 translate to a difference of £50?

Either the 4gb is too cheap, or the 8gb too expensive.

This has nothing to do with exchange rates.

Yes 100% correct as as usuall if it was £199 to start with for the 8gb version seems ocuk is going to gouge a extra £10 as per usuall

OcUK have nailed every launch! No gouging.

We were going to hit £199.99, that is now impossible, not due to OcUK, not due to AMD, not due to partners, not due to gouging, but due to weakening pound.

That is a mighty fine price for the GTX 980. Going to be interesting seeing how they compare!

Surely no one in their right mind would choose a 970 over the 480. The 480 should be faster anyway so it doesn't matter at all if the 970 is the same price as an 8gb 480. If the 480 comes close to the 980 then both Nvidia cards are overpriced.

Hi Gibbo,

You have hinted at tests, without giving too much away, does this sit closer to 970 or 980 performance?

Also, i'm not sure why the same ground keeps getting covered on pricing, it's fairly straight forward, p.s. any procurement jobs going?

Do you think these will actually be an issue for the 480?

I know a lot of people will buy Nvidia because it's Nvidia but I am hopeful there will be enough reason to forego the usual loyalty and buy AMD because it's actually better this time around.

So, i know this thread is 115 pages long and i have tried to keep up with as best i can. Without any reviews to look at, where abouts does the 8GB model stand? I mean i am only gaming at 1080p this year. Playing games like BF1, Overwatch and City Skylines etc will i be able to run this on high?

Also as Gibbo says, comparing this to the 980 which would give more performance?

Hi Gibbo

Speaking of the pound if it drops again is there any chance of a last few at this price kind of warning before you put the price up?

Giz

It's actually going up at the moment, so should be ok until the next wave of hysteria (which will be Boris getting to be PM) :D
