Radeon RX 480 "Polaris" Launched at $199

So come in thread hit last page to look at any new news to see its Nvidia talk again straight away in first couple posts at top of the page. Thought id go back couple of pages to end up seeing same person talking about Nvidia again in top of the pages. Why dont we just name the thread Nvidia hijack thread.

Was hoping to see if anyone found any news of any other amd cards 490 maybe.

No surprise here as the first few posts are from D.P. who is constantly using the Polaris threads to talk about Pascal features.

Linus did it!

For a bit of sport i'm going to make a prediction.

Based off this graph:

R 390.
2560 Shaders @ 1000Mhz

RX 480 2304 shaders @ 1266Mhz (+26.5%)

2304 = to 90% of 2560 + 26.5% = 114%

R9 390 is at 56% in that graph.
perf difference to R9 390 = 14% so 56% + 14% = 64%

RX 490 2560 Shaders @ 1450Mhz?
= RX 480 + 10% shaders + 15% Mhz = + 25% @ 0.7 scaling = + 17.5% performance.

My prediction is an RX 480 / 490 comparison graph would look something like this.

PellyNV getting a grinding for that.

Press only drivers could well be 'optimized' in certain ways to get the best performance in review benchmarks. Maybe someone will leak them so people can check if there is any difference.

The responses certainly are interesting, seems a lot of people now throwing NV under the bus saying the benchmarks could now be tainted as it might have given a slight advantage.

It's all hearsay at best, although I can see where it's coming from. On the other hand some are saying someone must have broken NDA and provided AMD with the driver.

We won't hear anything until at least E3, most likely the 29th though :(

I agree. And the price will put the 1070 to shame. Feel sorry for those paying for the 1070 now.

It could well be that AMD already spotted the discrepancy and knew that buy highlighting it to the world the truth would eventually come out without them even making an accusation.

Genius.

was reading aload of speculation on Polaris and 480 / 490, interesting stuff, a lot of people feel that 480 is a bit of a smokescreen and that AMD will drop an unannounced 480X or 490, with more CU units, 40-44 seems to be the guess. Someone went as far to say it will be a third faster than the proposed 480 on paper, adding a third to the cost, thus equalling $300.

All i know is, the 480 looks superb, if there is an unannounced 480X/490 and its a 3rd faster, that will be some beast of a card at that price point.

Edited to add at the price point of $300, and powerwise would bring it around the 980ti / 1070 area i would imagine.

Agreed, the 480 is going against nothing we know about, although I wouldn't be at all surprised if we see a 1060 by the end of the month.

I read yesterday somewhere on Reddit that 1060 is due for Q4 release.

If true that gives AMD a three month head start with the 480 which under the circumstances is a big lead.
