Hi,

I have just ordered the Swiftech H20Apex Ultra Plus Watercooling Kit and notice that to install this rad you need to drill two holes in your case.

I have an Akasa Eclipse 62 case and was thinking that I might just cut a pci slot instead and have the tubing going through the bottom of the case with the rad upside down.

Will this make any difference having the rad upsidedown?

Thanks :)

Looks cool,

I was thinking of using the bigger wider tubing so I think cutting pci slots might be needed.

Is using fatter tubing better or is there little difference?

I have this kit and can assure you that it comes with everything you could possibly need

what size tubing are you using?

could you post a pick?

Did you drill holes in your case?

:)

Can you tell by all my questions I'm a watercooling noob lol :p

Hi,

What water do I use?

Distalled?
Deionized?

A miuxture of the two?

What gives the best results?

I want to get this right from the start.

Whatever is easiest to get, for me de-ionised is more readilly available, no real difference between them for standard loop watercooling.

De-ionised is available from most garages/car accessory shops and some supermarkets (sold as battery or steam iron water).
Distilled is obtainable from chemists (larger ones may have to order it).

I read that deionised water can corrode the waterblocks due to it wanting to get its ions back!

"Another alternative is de-ionized water. De-ionized or non-conductive water may seem desirable initially, because it is a poor electrical conductor, and therefore will not cause much damage if a leak occurs. However, water is an excellent solvent, and so if de-ionized water is put into a water cooling system, it will corrode the water blocks to get its ions back. Therefore, de-ionized water is not something we recommend, either"

Is this true?

Please can we keep my thread on track...?

I get my Kit delivered today and I am sure I will run into some problems...questions help etc...

As its my first attempt at water cooling.

I appreciate everyones comments and I have learnt a lot already but I would appreciate for the thread to be kept on track :)

Thanks

If my conroe is at 70 c full load dual prime with a zalman 9500 on silent air what can I expect with this kit?

I know its a stab in the dark question cause of ambient temps etc... but a rough idea would be good to help me know whether I have installed the kit correctly.

Andy's estimation seems to be on the button, a 10c drop should be easily achievable..maybe more. Idle temps wont differ dramatically but then its the load temps that matter m8 as I'm sure you already know.

Ok cool no pun intended lol :p

Yeah the load temps where just to high for me 70c is pushing it.

I'm glad there should be that much difference as that will alow more overclocking headroom and the justification of going water lol :D

Just been reading the instructions and it states that the radiator when installed upsidedown can lead to air filling up the circuit.

I notice Andy you have yours upsidedown have you noticed any problems.
Ideally I do not want to drill holes in my case if I can help it and pass the tubing through the bottom of the pci slots.

The pci will have to be cut mind due to the width of the supplied tubing.

I'm a bit overwhelmed TBH  but looking forward to it too :D

I will take a pic to show you what I mean of suggested res position and pump position any feedback great as always :)

Just about to mount my rad at the back of the case on the rad box.

I already have a exhaust fan 120 mm fan at the back sucking hot air out of the case.

If I have the fans sucking through the rad wont it conflict with the exhaust fan sucking out of the case?

Or shall I just get rid of the exhaust fan all together?

bit of a noob question...

Does the tubeing have to go right over thae barb then right up to the nut?

And is this where i clamp it ot do i clamp around the barb itself?

I'm finding it really difficult to get it right up flush to the nut
:o

Get your mums/sisters.girlfriends/wifes hairdryer out and heat the hose up, it'll stretch over the barb MUCH easier that way :)

Dipped in bioling water in the end

rads in place and pump and res

just need to connect the cpu and i'm off :)

How do i short a 24 pin psu to start the pump going?

p.s i must thank you all for your help up to now ;)

Ive shorted that wire and conected the pump and my fan controller.

However when I click the on switch at the back of the psu the pump starts and the fan controller then it just cuts out.

What
am I doing wrong?

done it

what a noob, the paperclip had some plastic on the ends so was not making proper contact :o  :D

its now running and by the looks of it no initial leaks.

how long does it take for the froth to go?

thanks
