Radio1 & Twitter

I don't see the point of twitter... It's just facebook, with almost everything removed =\

It's not stricly a social networking site, atleast compared to other more traditional ones such as Facebook/myspace. Twitter is a microblogging site, which forces you to summarise blog posts into a set amount of characters to keep it concise and relevant to your audience.

Facebook, until recently, did not have this feature. The facebook status updates did something subtly different. They were specifically supposed to be about what you were doing. Twitter is not really for this purpose, although some people misuse it. Twitter is for topics that could be extended into a normal sized blog post - a film review for example or a discussion on a current mews topic. They can be about you or your work too, but they need to have significance to your audience.

Most people don't understand Twitter and that annoys me.

Facebook serves a purpose, it helps me catch up with old school mates that I dont often talk too, e.g. the 30th I went to at the weekend. No wonder ITV sold friends reunited! They must have made a lose on that one.

Twitter on the other hand..... I dont see what the point is of it.

As in take Facebook status updates and freind list, and then remove everything else = twitter
In the same way that sending text messages is just like facebook but with most of the things removed and on your phone
or instant messaging is just like facebook but with most of the things removed
twitter is a different medium, it's much more communicative than facebook, you dont have a profile, you just have what you say, completely irrespective of what people use it for, they're just completely different ideas, I don't get why people have to associate a short line of text attached to a person as being like a facebook status

Oh dear you didnt get it did you... Facebook does what twitter does and LOTS more, and is very social...

you said texting was like facebook with everything removed, but twitter is exactly like texting, so why do it? lol

Why use a site that does one thing? when there is a site that does this, and give you image hosting/albums/apps/etc etc.

twitter is just a waste of time, you can argue facebook is the same as myspace, but facebook do it better, twitter does nothing differant or better... waste of internets

because that's exactly what people use Facebook status messages for.. you can even add an app to facebook and/or twitter that keeps them in synch. Really, you must be blind not to see how Twitter and Facebook status updates are not nearly identical.

it fits in with their core audience of inane buffoons with the attention span of a goldfish...halfwits reading meaningless small talk about nothing in particular

They do discuss it an awful lot... getting people to follow people... I've never used twitter, and hope that I am never forced to at gun point... because I'll die.

half of my use of twitter is this reason... a close group of my friends and another group within my office use twitter 90% of the time in place of texting, maybe it's just pattern of use remaining from when the best interaction with twitter was by sms, we used to use it basically as a mass texting tool, and that pattern still continues.

the other half of my twitter use is following interesting twitterers, including some people I know, some websites, some companies, some celebs, I could have most of them on facebook and check their pages for updates, but twitter is a lot simpler. You say twitter is a cut down facebook, but facebook are actively trying to become more like twitter, giving you the ability to cut down on whose status updates you actually see and including the fan pages in those updates. I think the new facebook fan page is the closest similarity, but as I said twitter isn't about having a profile on there, it's about what you say in your updates.

As is said in every discussion of twitter on here, because it's subscription driven the only way you'll get what you want from twitter is by following the people you want to.

There are some mildly amusing ones from celebrities on there, but in general this sums it up well: "i haz a status. i tweetz it."...
