Weren't going to or from Blenheim as, they were going basically along the route the A40 follows into Oxford (roughly) so 90 degrees to Blenheim.

Do we have any F15 Eagles in UK either from the Yanks or from our own Air Force? (though don't the Yanks usually fly in a formation of 4 rather than 5?)

Somewhat O/T but we had what I presume was a Lancaster and a Hurricane/Spitfire fly rather low over our village yesterday - made a hell of a racket, but it was a hell of a sight :)

I heard that the Queen was up at Catterick Garrison to personally give out some medals so I presume they were to do with that?

There are several squadrons based at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, which is right next door to RAF Mildenhall, the USAF's central hub in Europe. There are a couple of squadrons of the F-15C single-seat air superiority fighter version and at least one squadron of the F-15E two-seat fighter-bomber version (unofficially known as Strike Eagle, Beagle (as in bomber eagle) or Mud Hen(!)). The F-15E squadron is the same that, during the 1980s, performed the bombing raids on Libya, when they were equipped with the F-111 Aardvark.

To be fair, in Oxford you've got Brize Norton and Lyneham not too far away, both of which have mostly 'heavies' (C-130 Hercules, Tristar & C-17) operating out of them, and the Vulcan is operating out of Brize for the display season.

I swear they were armed as well, or were carrying extra fuel tanks instead of arms as they had plenty of stuff dangling down :(

Man, why am I the only person on the whole of the internet to notice some fighter jets flying in a close 5-V formation carrying arms or extra fuel :(

Could well have been a live-fire exercise. Then again most fighters carry external fuel drop-tanks to extend their range. Normally F-15s and the Typhoon carry one on the centerline (under the fuselage), while the Tornado F-3 fighter version usually carries one on each wing, as it carries its four Skyflash missiles under the fuselage. To complicate the matter, the Tornado GR-4 bomber version carries a jamming pod under one wing, and a Chaff/Flare dispenser under the other, as these weren't build into the airframe when it was designed in the '60s

Because I can't work out what the planes were or why there were flying lol
And I would hope the US fighters help out and would expect them to really

On their way to the RAF Leuchars airshow in Scotland.
