RAF Typhoon scrambled to escort plane.

So what are the chances of a plane being shot out of the sky by RAF aircraft over British airspace?

Assuming there was a bomb/hijack... From my knowledge based on TV shows they wouldn't over an urban area which makes sense (probably cause more casualties).

Essex police arrest two men on suspicion of endangerment of an aircraft after pakistani plane diverted to stansted airport, Zufiqar Bijarani told CNN: "We have been told there may have been a bomb threat."

It has all ended well, plane landed, suspects arrested, no injuries and the passengers are leaving the aircraft.

Apparently it was the pilots that requested a diversion and air assistance. I would have thought they would only have done that if the incident was ongoing and they had not got control of the situation at that time.

I doubt the bomb threat claim as I don't think the police would have boarded the aircraft so quickly.

Passenger (Umari Nauman) speaking on the phone to sky news at the moment the passengers were told the diversion was because of weather. After landing it was announced by the captain that two men made repeated attempts to enter the cockpit and ignored cabin crew and made threats towards them.

Whereas other reports are suggesting it was just a husband and wife having a domestic!

That was a passenger on the plane but who knows. I think the attempted cockpit intrusion is a more likely scenario to scramble jets and divert than a couple having a barny.

The suspects are both men one aged 30 the other 41 according to Essex Police. Maybe one was dressed as a woman :D

I am inclined to believe something that could have been very serious has been narrowly avoided. Sounds like the crew of PIA acted very quickly and professionally, good for them.

It's amazing the different versions that seem to be coming out - certainly some entertaining discrepancies which slightly make up for no play in the cricket.

I actually think the seriousness of this is actually being played down for once. It will be interesting to see how it pans out.

From an airport point of view this is a disastrous start to a bank holiday weekend especially in light of the emergency landing at Heathrow this morning.
