RAID 0 installation trouble

Well that didn't work - it's still showing 2 seperate drives.

I can't see any options during the RAID setup phase where I can make a difference ...

You know what, try using XP drivers!!! I had that same problem and i managed to install Vista using XP drivers on my Asus P5WDG2-WS Pro and Asus P5B-VM DO.

Worth a try. And since you've already created a Raid 0 array, there should only 1 unpartitioned array shown.

I'll take you through the way I'm installing ...

I've gone through selecting the windows version, accepting license terms then click on Custom (advanced option)

Then comes to a window asking where I want to install Windows.

Below this question are my 2 drives.

Disk 0 is highlighted as default.

If I select Disk 1 then a message appears at the bottom: "This computers hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disks controller is enabled in the computers bios memory.

There are 3 options to click on:
Refresh
Drive Options
Load driver

I click on Load driver.

I then click on Browse and point to the floppy

Windows scans for a bit then there's a file NVIDIA nForce RAID Controller (A:\nvrd32.inf) that is selected as default.

I click Next

Windows reads from the floppy and I assume loads the driver. Grenn bat progress at bottom of the screen then it takes me back to the Where do you want to install screen.

I click Next.

I get a message saying that the Drive 1 is not valid but there's enough room on Drive 0.

I carry on with the installation using Disk 0, eventually reboots and says missing operating system before hanging up.

Also, in the Bios screen where I choose the Hard Disk boot priority, the only disk showing is SCSI-0: NVIDIA STRIPE 138.49G. Does this sound right?
 
Pressed the refresh button but it's still showing that error message about not being able to boot from the drive. I think the problem is with the raid array setup. I tried installing with an XP disk and it mentioned about my drive being a SCSI setup. I thought these were different from RAID ...?

Windows calls anything that isn't a plain IDE or SATA controller a SCSI one.

After you hit the refresh button was Vista still showing two drives as possible installation targets?
 
If you're still seeing 2 drives then either the array isn't set up right or the drivers are wrong. From what you say it sounds like the array is OK which suggests that the driver is the culprit.

Did you use the ones from the link I posted earlier? You using 32bit or 64bit Vista?

Yeah, I used your link and am trying to install 32 bit Home Premium edition.
 
Yeah, I've enabled all 4 ports.

This is just bizarre. I might just put my second Raptor back in it's box for the time being. I'm planning on a complete overhaul soon including new mobo and cpu ...
