im new to this so please bare with me.

my friend has sold me 2 raptor 75gb hdd 10000rpm, wich i wanted to do a raid 0 with them
hes set it up on the bios but when it comes to install windows(boot from cd) on the raptors it dosnt show, it only shows my 750gb samsung drive.

atm hes left it set up so i have windows on one of the raptors and the other blank for games and my 750 for just junk bascily, when raid is turned on in the bios and trys to boot it just fails.

i get this message from when its booting be careful, it is not raid mode now, but there is still structure in thehard disk.

any ideas ????

I'd recommend building the array using your own BIOS, not your friends, and have the RAID drivers handy on USB drive (or floppy) during Windows install (at the drive selection screen). It shouldn't need them for an Intel controller but since the array is not showing up it might be worth running them at this stage.

if im to wipe the disk blank how would i setup the raid :S
When you create an array in the RAID ROM menu it should take care of this. You will lose all data on the drives though so be sure to backup any essential data before hand.

how do i build those, just trying to find that out myself ?

Look at Page 81 in your motherboard manual, through to Page 85, if using Vista or Win 7 you won't need to load any drivers during installation of OS, you can update ICH10R drivers and Intel Chipset drivers when installation is complete by downloading them from the Intel website...

when raid is on i got to boot windows 7 from cdrom and it dosnt show there :S not sure why. when there not paired together they show as 2 75gb hdd raptors, installed my motherboard disc jsut now and had to reboot i got another system failed and needed to repair/set back to an earlier time. it took everything off :S so confused all i want to do is raid 0 my raptors

You should have downloaded the following:

STOR_allOS_9.6.0.1014_PV.exe (RST)

or

STOR_allOS_8.9.0.1023_PV.exe (Matrix)

from the Intel site? I'd recommend the RST drivers but it doesn't make much difference and you can always upgrade at a later time. You run these drivers after you have installed Windows on the array.

In the BIOS you must have your controller in RAID mode, then reboot and enter the RAID configuration. Your motherboard manual should tell you how to do this. It'll be a key combo during boot. Set up your array using the two Raptors. I think this is the step you are missing and it is vital. The array must be created otherwise they will show up as separate drives, even if the controller is in RAID mode as you are effectively running in AHCI mode. Only once the array is built, boot from the Windows DVD. When you get to the screen where it asks you which drive to install to, you should see the array. If not install the RAID drivers manually from USB drive (see link I posted above) but as others have mentioned there really should be no need to do this for a Win 7 install.

If you are set on having RAID0 do not waste time at this stage installing Windows on a single drive. It will not help.

ive sorted it now i did the raid setup again booted windows disc and the raptor drive still wasnt showing so i put my mother board disc in and searched for a driver what i thought i might have needed (sata driver) everything worked a treat.

everything booted ok windows installed now its show two drives C: 138gb raptors(2x 75gb 10000rpm) and my samsung 750gb :D

just looking for latest ati radeon ccc driver now.

thanks for all your help :D good lads....

thanks bushy24....

Well congrats! :)

You can also update your storage drivers to the Intel latest and sit back and enjoy your speedy RAID. Used to run two Raptors myself in RAID0. Makes a helluva noise but fast!

I don't think S.M.A.R.T. works on RAID volumes.

As it says GRAID I presume you are using the Gigabtye SATA ports. That's why you don't see the drives on the Intel page.
