OK, hard drive noob question coming up:

Am I right in assuming that Raid 0 means that you have 2 hard drives recording the exact same data simultaneously? Thus, if one fails then the other has saved all your data?

If I'm right then I would like details on how it is configured, whether or not identical drives are required, can you turn a normal SATA-II setup into a Raid 0 etc.?

Any help appreciated. :)

the raid you described is raid 1.. raid 1 MIRROR's the data on to 2 drives

RAID0 stores part of a file on one drive and another part on the other.. thus doubling (in theory) the copy speed and read speed of files as the single file is coming from 2 drives.

2 drives are used have to be used i think they can be any drive but im not sure i tend to use the same models.

heres a question

I am slowly putting together my new gaming rig Ive got two 250gb Seagate HHD's & I am thinking of getting a 74gb Veloci Raptor installing Vista64 onto this and using the two Seagate drives in Raid0 for everything else, Would that be a problem during a clean install?

Ive heard loads about Raid and all that and built a few computers over the years but never really paid much attention to it & this is my first foray in striping and all that.

there is no problem with the setup that you propose, depending on your usage the two seagates may be quicker than your raptor. The raptors have very fast access times, though not as quick as SSD, and their transfer rate is quick also, but the seagates in RAID0 will be almost twice as fast as a single one.

During the OS install you will be prompted for which drive you wish to install the OS on, and if you have set the RAID up correctly, there will be the raptor listed and another 500 GB drive
