hey all im going to be getting the gigabyte ga-x58a-ud7 MB and 2 x Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache hdd's wanting to set up raid 0 for OS, never done it before. will they run at sata 6gb/s? or would i be better using the intel chips at sata 2? ive read a lot and ppl are saying the marvell chip is no good what do you ppl think?

Patience is a virtue dear boy!

will they run at sata 6gb/s?

This depends what controller you use, if you put them on the Marvell 9128, then "yes", however, running at SATA 6Gb/s will only increase your "burst" speed and not your read/writes...

I would be inclined to use the Intel controller for what you want to do as you will get the good read/writes in RAID0 on it, although your burst speed will be SATA 3Gb/s, but this is off no importance...

thanks guys, only reason im gettin those hdds is cause of the cache do u recomend any others? im building a gaming rig with i7 930 thought a raid 0 config wud be good for tht

what abouit the cache tho? the f3 only has 16mb,,, whereas the caviar's have 64mb

The Samsung F3 will have better read/write performance owing to it having a 500GB platter, whereas the WD 640GB Black has 320GB platters, the differance in cache size is really not going to be noticeable...
