Hi all,

I was wondering,I have a 500GB Western Digital Green 7200rpm,8mb cache,Sata2 that i use for Storage etc,Although i want to get another 500Gb drive to do Raid1 so if one fails i have it backed up.

Do i have to have exactly the same matching drives to do Raid1?

Or can i use another 500Gb drive, with 8mb cache,7200rpm but made by a diffrent company?

It will work, the volume will be the capacity of the smallest drive in the array. I would guess you're least likely to hit problems with identically spec'd drives though.

(RAID 0) i've got two diffrent drives in my box at work (it's a # of what i could find) it has a 4 year old 80 GB SATA and a 1 year old 500 GB SATA...

Works most of the time, however it does randomly crash when doing nothing.. then needs the power pulling out the back

(RAID 1) i've then got two of the same drives in my machine at home and never had a issue.
