RAID 1 or RAID 10?

I think Raptors are too fast for their own good in a RAID environment, they don't have TLER like RE3s so chuck errors back at the controler which drops them out the array. That's a known issue (drives being rejected as 'faulty' when they're not), but I have no idea what impact the SSD would have in there.

example, three 320gb drives, /dev/sd[a,b,c], one 1tb drive /dev/sdd

That's a linux softraid array. You can't do that with a hardware controller.
