Raid 1 question

Hey guys my friend needs a bit of help and I know nothing about Raids.

He is using Raid 1 on Windows 7 with the Microsoft driver and one of his hard drives is on the way out.

Is there a specific procedure in swapping out the drive in Windows 7? Also what happens if you want to swap it with a larger drive as well?

Software or Hardware Raid1?

Think its hardware Raid 1 using the Intel ICH8R chipset but with the default Windows 7 driver if thats any help.

For the larger drive question.

It's recommended that both drives in the mirrored pair are the same Manufacturer and part numbers.

If you replaced the dying drive with a bigger capacity one the mirror would only be the size of the smallest drive.
